Hope for a better Australia

Horrific, devastating, toxic. The intense summer blazes, My eyes sore from the ash-filled, smoky sky. Water supply inadequate due to drought. Firefighters risking their lives to save our country. Australia is burning.

Lives lost, homes destroyed, animals singed, our environment ruined. Fierce winds spreading the disaster. The stench of chaos fills my nose. Our sun a round ball of fire.&#160;

The scene around me is too painful to watch. But I can&#8217;t keep my eyes off it. Big clouds of smoke everywhere I go But no water. Australia is burning.

Next summer we will be more prepared. Policies will be put in place to save water. Water restrictions, shorter showers, using the half-flush button where possible. Installation of water tanks to save our precious water for a not- so rainy day. There is hope.

Hi my name is Chrysanthe Panagopoulos , I am 11 years old and I love dancing. I live in Sydney Australia, I have been going to our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School since kindergarten. In 2020 I will be in year 6 and then moving on to high school.

My favourite subjects are Writing, Maths and Religion. Religion is my favourite subject because I get to learn about God and all the good deeds he has done.

My favourite sports are dancing, running, soccer and football. I have competed in the cross country regionals, swimming and athletic carnivals and all gala days.

I believe I am a good writer due to the fact that I am a creative writer. I use the correct punctuation and grammar with each text I write. To me writing is not about writing random words on a piece of paper, it's about feeling what you write.

Additionally I have participated in our schools poetry slam and I was elected to perform my spoken poetry in front of our school. I was also privileged to be chosen to be apart of this writing competition.
