Involving students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in story telling is usually a multi-sensory experience. Story telling involves objects to touch, look and listen to, things to smell and even to taste. This interactive story involved listening to sea sounds, touching turtles, seaweed, plastic, smelling sunscreen and many more things. 

The art work in this book is made with the help of all the students.

The ocean produces oxygen, soaks up huge amounts of excess carbon and houses 80% of all life on earth. Isn&#8217;t that worth protecting?

About the author Ellen Buith I am a teacher working with PMLD students in a special school in Auckland, New Zealand. I love making stories interactive and sensory! I would look around my home and classroom for props to bring my story to life. Charity shops can also be great places to find cheap props, which helps the planet by re-cycling and up-cycling. I enjoy using sound effects, so any songs, sounds, clapping or actions to create a real sensory experience. The more clues we give the students to help them understand a word or concept the better. And then repeat, repeat, repeat! Repetition is so important in helping children to learn. This story was created as a result of knowing a passionate wildlife conservationist. Her passion for looking after our environment is contagious and so the story was born. Love the ocean, protect your skin.
