Defining Globalisation
Globalisation means the worldwide change on an economic, technological and cultural level.
The phenomenon of westernisation is summed up and becomes very vivid in this short story about a butterfly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeXvtz0_Ex0
"Globalisation is a situation in which available goods an services, or social and cultural influences gradually become similar in all parts of the world."
Defining Globalisation
"Globalisation is a situation in which available goods an services, or social and cultural influences gradually become similar in all parts of the world."
Globalisation is the process of people connecting to each other all over the world. This is also called global village. All people become closer and are therefore "living" in a so called global village.
I believe that globalization changed our way of thinking. It goes much deeper than we really realize. Watching movies from different countries, eating other kinds of food and learning other traditions has changed our personalities. We start to learn stuff that might be out of our confort zone. It is really amazing because it shows that most of the societies are open for new things.
Aspects in which globalisation contributes to a better future:
So the world keeps getting more interweaved everday in various aspects and I´m not so sure what to think about it.
Of course becoming more similar to each other helps understanding people from other culture circles than your own.
Naturally information and technology spread more easily, as we are all connected and yes, there is a global market that enables lower prices for the stuff we buy, higher profit for companies and more job opportunities for us.
If we think about our culture there are many things we profit from, e.g.: the exchange of knowledge, cultural awareness and so on. The food is also a big topic and that globalisation brought us from North America, Mc'Donalds for instance or Sushi and Gyros from Japan and Greece. By this trade of food I myself have profited in my exchange year in Latin-America. I could eat products from the U.S.A and there were even products from Germany like whipped cream and bread. I felt a little bit closer to my home and by the cultural awareness we receive these days my "family" understood me and responded to me in a positive way.

The fact that you can read this right now is a consecuence of globalisation and there much more... Not you and me share a connection right now, the whole world is connected. We can trade with each other and exchange our knowledge. We can create social equality by spreading cultural awareness... also we can work together on problems.
And this is where my hopes start : We should not concentrate just on our profit, we should focus more on how we can use our connection in order to eluminate the challenges.... because I`m concered about our future ! The question is for how long can we profit from globalisation without start acting ? ...
Because of the power of the big companies also called global players we can't control the protection of our rainforests or the oceans. But not just the companies use way too much resources, every single individuum is also responsible for the world wide plastic consumption and the ongoing climate change. The oceans are full with plastic and other dangerous materials threatening the fish and other sea animals. They die because they can't differentiate food from plastic and at the end they die because of our plastic consumption... We don't want our seas or at the end ourselfs to drown in plastic in the future, do we?
In how far does globalisation influence our future in a negative way?
You should read this article to learn about further negative impacts of globalisation.
But there is not just the nature that is suffering, there are a lot of people as well. People are working in bad working conditions and for low wages just to satisfy our consumerism. Other people are trying to fit in western patterns and as a consecuence they are losing their culture... I don`t want a future where everyone looks the same and is doing the same things everyday !!!
So we can't just walk around and focus on ourselves by giving the global players a platform to make us happy, we need to be open minded and face the truth !
