TerresaWritten by Isabel Coulter-Daly
Illustrated by Amanda Yang
Terresa the flower was almost in full bloom
Her thriving health was quite the good feature
She would grow to her fullest potential soon
And become a magnificent creature
Her thriving health was quite the good feature
She would grow to her fullest potential soon
And become a magnificent creature
Her beauty radiated as brightly as her health
For her floral features were beyond unique
For her floral features were beyond unique
Her vibrant petals and sturdy stem were of much wealth
No aspect of her was bleak
No aspect of her was bleak
Terresa could not blossom without her brilliant environmental friends
The warm sun, the sparkling water, and the buzzing bees
Without them, her flourishing life would come to an end
She needed support from the prospering plants, the helpful insects, and the splendid trees

One day Terresa was awoken by a noise
A loud and obnoxious noise that made her jump
A loud and obnoxious noise that made her jump
2
This was not a natural part of the environment that she enjoyed
Not the clacks, the clangs, the bangs, and the thumps
Not the clacks, the clangs, the bangs, and the thumps
She saw monstrous machines come roaring in
Knocking down trees and squishing plants in its path
The destruction of her home was starting to begin
And all of her friends had to face the wrath
Knocking down trees and squishing plants in its path
The destruction of her home was starting to begin
And all of her friends had to face the wrath
“What are they doing?”, Terresa asked
“Oh, why are they building a road next to me?”
But then, as the weeks began to pass
Her world transformed into one that could not be

But then, as the weeks began to pass
Her world transformed into one that could not be

Cars and trucks and buses zoomed by
Filling once pure air with pollution
Filling once pure air with pollution
The brilliant blues turned into a gloomy gray sky
And pouring more concrete was not the solution
And pouring more concrete was not the solution
Terresa was thirsty, but her fresh, sparkling water was no more
The construction had poisoned it all
And the helpful bugs and birds that used to happily soar
Had left their home with a sorrowful bawl
The construction had poisoned it all
And the helpful bugs and birds that used to happily soar
Had left their home with a sorrowful bawl
Soon, came down a substance that was wet to the touch
Terresa realized that it was not rain
They poured and sprayed and dumped so much
Her innocent plant friends writhed in pain
Terresa realized that it was not rain
They poured and sprayed and dumped so much
Her innocent plant friends writhed in pain

Terresa was now all alone
And she didn’t know what to do
And she didn’t know what to do
Gone were all of the friends that she had known
Who had helped her to survive and healthily make it through
Who had helped her to survive and healthily make it through
She was withering, dying, turning to dust
Her life would not last much longer
This ending for Terresa was completely unjust
And she realized that it was due to man, who seemed to believe that he was much stronger
Her life would not last much longer
This ending for Terresa was completely unjust
And she realized that it was due to man, who seemed to believe that he was much stronger
“My life was a dream and lacked any strife
All before these powerful beings arrived
Now I will end these last moments of my life
With cold tears filling my eyes”
