Illustrated by Jillian NordOnce upon a time, there was a scholar, who only reads books and does whatever the books say.
One day, when riding a small donkey, carrying a whole bag of books, he meets an injured fox.
The fox is trying to escape from a hunter, and it begs the scholar for help.
Though the scholar perfectly knows that fox do not usually do good deeds, he helps it anyway because the old texts always talk about the importance of helping others when they are in trouble or danger.
Thinking about that, the scholar puts down his bag and and allows the fox to get in there to hide.
Just in a while, the hunter comes to the scholar and asks if he saw a fox go through and the scholar answers no and claims that the fox has probably taken another route.
After the hunter leaves, the scholar lets the fox out and the fox, with those sneaky eyes, rubbing its hands, says that "Dear scholar, since you have helped me once, why not twice? I am hungry to death and could you please be my dinner?"
Saying that, the fox jumps over the scholar and they start fighting.
A passing farmer sees this scene and asks what has happened. They brief the farmer the story and the farmer doubts that how can such a big fox climb into such a tiny bag?
