By: Liv All About Maine
My poem is about a place I love to visit, Maine. I was inspired to write it because we had a suggestion to write a letter poem, and I chose to write about Maine, because I have so many feelings for it and I could write them all down in a poem.
Maine is my happy place because I can be free there. I am allowed to ride my bike around the town, which is so small, that it has only three stores in the whole town. Luckily for me, my house is just 1 minute away from"town". There is a shop called the Coffee Shop. I stop there every morning on my way to sailing camp. I get hot chocolate on the rainy days, and on the sunny days, I also get hot chocolate because in the mornings, it is very cold and we are at sailing the whole morning and then we go to a club my grandparents are part of. There is a pool, a dock where we jump off to go into the ocean, and a snack bar where I order m lunch from. I love to just hang out there with my friends, then I go home around 4. I am there for 4 hours and I don't even know it.

Maine

Dear Maine,
As I write this
I realize that I might not return
At least not until next year
You are my happy place
Someplace to look forward to
Jumping into your freezing waters
Freaking out over smooth sailing with friends at my side
Jumping in when we get back
As I ride my bike dripping wet
I feel like I could flood the whole street
Back at my house I change
Then grab my bag that was ready to leave
Then hopping back onto my bike
I ride freely to my grandparents' house
As I write this
I realize that I might not return
At least not until next year
You are my happy place
Someplace to look forward to
Jumping into your freezing waters
Freaking out over smooth sailing with friends at my side
Jumping in when we get back
As I ride my bike dripping wet
I feel like I could flood the whole street
Back at my house I change
Then grab my bag that was ready to leave
Then hopping back onto my bike
I ride freely to my grandparents' house
I say hello
Get some cookies
Then run off
Back to jumping off of the dock into the freezing waters
Surrounded by caring friends
Laughing from pushing each other in
My heart lept as I was pushed in
Just wait a little longer
Until I find a way to get to you
Can’t wait to see you
Thanks for being my happy place,
I’ll miss you

My reflection
Writing this poem helped me realize that I might not return this summer, but I can remember Maine with this poem. Thinking about Maine and reading this helps me calm down and thinking about my friends and all the fun things I do there. I feel very free when I go to Maine. Writing Poems are the best way for me to get over things.
