Chapter 1: Introduction

In this chapter the authors will identify the disability area on which they are focusing and explain why they chose this specific disability area.

In addition, each member of the groups will add an audio recording of their specific reasons for being interested in this disability area.

Chapter 2: Literature Review

In the literature review, students enrolled in RE 5725 will:

• Conduct a search of refereed, published journal articles addressing the specified disability area.
• Identify at least five articles published in the last ten years.
• Read articles.
• Write a synthesis of this information with correct APA formatting.
• Read synthesis aloud to group members enrolled in LIT 4904 and ask for feedback.
• The literature review should be approximately 500 words in length.

Chapter 3: Insider's Perspectives

In the insider's perspective, students enrolled in RE 5725 will:

• Conduct a search for adult activists who identify with the specified disability area.
• Identify at least five pieces "published" in the last ten years.
• Read/view/listen to pieces.
• Write a synthesis of this information with correct APA formatting.
• Read synthesis aloud to group members enrolled in LIT 4904 and ask for feedback.
• The insider's perspective should be approximately 500 words in length.

Chapter 4: The Literacy-Cast Proclamation

This chapter will contain:

• A written copy of the Literacy-Cast Proclamation.
• An audio-recording of LIT 4904 students or student reading the proclamation aloud.
• A written justification of the relevance of this proclamation.

Chapter 5: Search for Children's Books

This chapter will contain:

• A description of the ways in which group member completed their search for children's books.
• A full bibliography of all books identified through search.

Search criteria should include:

• Published children's picture book or graphic novel;
• Published within the last 20 years;
• Includes a character with specified disability; or
• Includes the topic of the specified disability; or
• Written or illustrated by person who identifies with specified disability.

Chapter 6: Evaluation of Children's Books

Group members will evaluate each search-identified book using the Literacy-Cast Proclamation. This evaluation should include a table and a written interpretation of the table.
