Welcome to 5th Grade With Ms. Roach!
A Little About Me!
Hi Everyone!!

My name is Ms. Roach and I am so excited to meet you all and spend the 2023-2024 school year with you! Here is a little bit about me!

I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana where I went to Indiana University (Go Hoosiers!). Something I love about Indianapolis is the beautiful sunsets, cultural diversity, amazing food, and seeing all of the fireflies in the summertime.

I have been in Utah since July of 2020 and I am loving every second of it! I have been on some amazing hikes, seen awesome wildlife, and gotten to try so many new things. I adopted a Labrador Retriever puppy in January of 2020, his name is Moose and he is the cutest guy ever!

I love art, traveling, music, baseball (the Chicago Cubs specifically), animals, and teaching!

I have met so many great people here in Utah and I am so happy and grateful for the opportunity to teach alongside such amazing staff at Antelope Canyon. I am so excited to get to know such wonderful students and families!
Classroom Expectations
Rules and Expectations
I want our classroom to be a safe and welcoming environment for all. We will focus on what it looks like to be respectful people, respectful to peers, and respectful to the classroom. Our school has implemented "Kindness Cash" which will be something any adult can give for going above and beyond following school wide expectations. In class, we have individualized rewards as well as our own class rewards.

School Supplies
School supplies will be provided by the school, however if you would like to donate any items to the classroom, things like tissues, dry erase markers, and hand sanitizer are always welcome!

Treats
As incentives for completed tasks, upholding class rules/expectations and other fun classroom things, I like to provide students with treats such as suckers, jolly ranchers or any other small candy that is individually packaged. If your child has any dietary needs or allergies please let me know so we can coordinate safe treats.

Birthdays
Celebrating a birthday at school is so fun!! If you would like to bring in treats for a birthday, we ask that there are enough for the class and that it can be individually passed out like a cupcake or individually packaged treats. We have a class size of 26. We will celebrate the Summer birthdays in May.

What We Will Be Learning!

This year in Math, we are going to master adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions! We are also going to become very familiar with decimals, and finding area and volume.

In English Language Arts, we will be diving into stories from our Journeys books, reading about current events, and continuing with phonics instruction/review!

In Writing, we will cover narrative, opinion and informative writing!

In Science we will get to discover interactions of Earth's systems, properties of matter, as well as the cycling of matter in ecosystems! We will be doing a lot of hands on learning in science, which I love! We will be tracking our investigations in our science notebooks.

In Social Studies we will be focusing mainly on United States history and government!

Parent Communication
I am reachable through email (caroline.roach@jordandistrict.org) and I will also be using Class Dojo for parent communication as well as our class rewards. Here is the link to join our class!
