TARGET 1
REDUCE MATERNAL MORTALITY
Maternal mortality refers to deaths due to complications from pregnancy or childbirth. From 2000 to 2017, the global maternal mortality ratio declined by 38 per cent – from 342 deaths to 211 deaths per 100,000 live births.
By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births. It means that the percentage has to decrease by 67%, which is not an easy task.
TARGET 2
END DEATHS UNDER 5 YEARS OF AGE
The world made remarkable progress in child survival in the past three decades, and millions of children have better survival chances. 1 in 27 children died before reaching age five in 2019, compared to 1 in 11 in 1990. Moreover, progress in reducing child mortality rates has been accelerated in the 2000–2019 period compared to the 1990s, with the annual rate of reduction in the global under-five mortality rate increasing from 1.9 per cent in 1990–1999 to 3.7 per cent in 2000–2019.
By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 1.2% live births and under‑5 mortality to at least as low as 2.5%
TARGET 3
FIGHT COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
In 2019 over 1 million people died due to Tuberculosis, over 600.000 due to HIV/AIDS, 400.000 due to Malaria and over 200.000 due to Cholera and Measles. By 2030, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases.
TARGET 4
FIGHT NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AND PROMOTE MENTAL HEALTH
By 2030, reduce by one-third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being.
Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) kill 41 million people each year, equivalent to 71% of all deaths globally.
77% of all NCD deaths are in low- and middle-income countries.
Cardiovascular diseases account for most NCD deaths, followed by cancers, respiratory diseases and diabetes.
These four groups of diseases account for over 80% of all premature NCD deaths
