Early life and education Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany, on March 14, 1879. He was the son of a salesman and a housewife. Einstein did not speak until he was four years old, and his parents were concerned that he might be mentally handicapped. However, he eventually caught up and became a brilliant student.

Later life and legacy Einstein continued to work on physics throughout his life. He made many other important contributions, including the development of the general theory of relativity, which describes the relationship between gravity and space-time. He also worked on quantum mechanics, the theory that explains the behavior of matter and energy at the atomic level.

Career Einstein attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, where he studied physics and mathematics. After graduating, he worked as a patent clerk in Bern, Switzerland. In his spare time, he continued to work on physics problems. In 1905, he published four groundbreaking papers that revolutionized physics. These papers included the development of the special theory of relativity, which showed that space and time are not absolute but are relative to the observer.
