Mei went door to door asking the villagers if they ever had two daughters around her and Hau's age. Every single house she went to and asked have all said no and Mei was starting to lose hope. At the last house, Mei took a deep breath and sighed. She knocked on the door and a middle-aged woman came to answer the door. The woman looked old enough to be Mei and Hau's mother. She also looked very similar to Mei as well. Mei asked if she ever had two daughters around her and Hau's age and she replied with a yes.

Mei went to go work on the fields, while Hau would help other families with housekeeping. Mei wasn't very experienced at farming, but compared to the other farmers, she was falling behind. Her boss had to cut her pay in half for not keeping up with the other farmers. Although, it took a couple of months, Mei had made enough money for both her, and Hau to make it across the Plateau of Tibet.

Mei was living her best life as a 6 year old. She would pick flowers around the castle garden, collected rocks, and other things. As she grew up her mom Chen, would make her clean around the house every now and then. She would make her wash the dishes, mop the floor, and even watch her baby sister when Chen couldn’t. Mei always wondered why they couldn’t just hire a maid to clean around the house.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mei and Hau go through the Gobi Desert again. Although, Mei knows that the money Chen supplied for them wouldn't be enough to buy them, much food, and water anymore. Just one week later, Mei and Hau had run out of money, and were only able to make it halfway through the desert, before a sandstorm appeared. Mei tried to take Hau to a nearby cave but they were both too weak, since they haven't eaten in the past two days, and sandstorm caught up to them and suffocated both Mei and Hau, due to starvation that made them slower to run away unlike before.

Mei decides to continue traveling with Hau and with hope that they'll find a town, with some food they could buy. One week after traveling, both Mei and Hau have depleted their food and water. Luckily, they have traveled far enough to a nearby village, and used some of their money to buy some food, and water. Food and water weren't the only problem though. Traveling in the Gobi Desert was very dangerous. Sandstorms would appear without warning, and the days there are boiling hot, luckily they were able to avoid sandstorms and the heat by hiding in nearby caves they found. Eventually, they made it to the Great Wall of China. Now, Mei has to make a choice

Mei decided to wait until it got dark to climb over the wall since it was less guarded around midnight. When midnight rolled around, she and Hau silently scaled the wall and managed to make it over without any soldiers noticing. Then, Mei saw a small village right next to the Yellow River and made the decision to stay there for the rest of the night. In the morning, she used the rest of their money to buy some food and followed the Yellow River into the Plateau of Tibet.

When Mei grew older, her mother started teaching her some simple stuff like reading and writing. She would still have to do chores while she continued learning but that didn’t bother her. Everything she learned was very easy for her so it didn’t bother her one bit. She would also read some of her favorite books during her free time.

After reading the letter, she decides to ask Chen about the letter. Chen then decides to tell Mei that she is not her real mom. When Mei heard this, she got angry at Chen for not telling her sooner. Then, Chen offered to let Mei look for her biological parents, and even gave her the address of the village her biological parents lived at the last time Chen checked. After having a long talk with Chen, she decided to make a big decision to take her and her sister to find their real parents. So, Chen helps Mei prepare and gives her the address. Mei thanks Chen and heads off to her journey with her sister Hau.

Mei couldn't wait any longer to visit her parents. She decides to climb over the Himalayas since it was the quicker route. Unfortunately, Mei and Hau were severely underprepared to climb the Himalayas and died of frostbite in just four days of climbing.

Mei decides to not read the book but she was caught by Chen and was banned from going into her room.

Mei decided to cook instead of farming since she knew she was more skilled in it. Even though, cooking made less money than farming, the food Mei cooked was the finest the villagers have ever tasted. She was able to sell her food for higher prices and within a month, Mei had made enough money for both her and Hau to make it across the Plateau of Tibet and the Himalayas Mountains. While crossing the plateau, Mei and Hau had come across the Yangtze and Mekong River. They decided to make use of the rivers, and refilled their bottles with the water. Eventually, both of them made it out of the plateau, and into the Himalayas Mountains.

Mei decides to not ask her mother about the letter and plans to escape the castle to find her biological parents. Mei succeeds and escapes the castle however, Chen starts to worry since Mei had suddenly disappeared. She then sends guards to search for her. In the end, Mei was caught by the guards and she was brought back home where Chen scolded Mei for suddenly leaving without telling her.

Although going around the Himalayas would take longer, it was a much safer option than climbing it. Mei and Hau went around the Himalayas and visited a variety of towns with different cultures. About a month later, Mei and Hau arrived at the village that their biological parents have supposedly lived at. Both Mei and Hau were very excited to finally meet them but they were also scared that their biological parents might not live there anymore and they made the entire journey for nothing.

Mei and Hau were very close to the address Chen gave them. It was just behind the Himalayas Mountains but they have to be careful. The Himalayas Mountains were known to cause many deaths of people who have tried to climb them, and there were very few food and water resources on the mountains. Now it's time for Mei to make a choice.

Mei and Hau use the rest of their money at a nearby village, to buy more food. This slowed them down severely, and after a week of traveling in the desert, the rest of their food rot, and on top of that, they were miles away from the nearest town. A couple of days later, both Mei and Hau die from starvation and dehydration.

Out of&nbsp;curiosity, she opened up the letter and started to read it.&nbsp;It was about her non-biological mother and her biological mother who both made a deal about giving Mei and her younger sister to the non-biological mother. The reason for this was because the mom didn’t have enough money to support her family. Mei was 6 years old when it happened, so she wouldn't remember this since she was too young.

&nbsp;&nbsp;One day while Mei was cleaning, she walked into her mother’s room and found a letter hidden in a box while she was dusting her nightstand.

One week later, Mei and Hau had almost run out of food. They sheltered at a village, where Mei went to look for a temporary job to make some money. She was offered two jobs.

After Mei got a bit further away from the castle, she took a look at the address that Chen gave her and realized that the house was on the opposite side of China. She sighed and continued her journey. The first problem appeared when she had to cross the Gobi Desert. Mei didn't nearly have enough food or water for both Hau and her to share.
