Hello there!
I am so glad that you stopped in to learn a little bit about butterflies. There are so many interesting things to learn about them. Not only are they beautiful to look at they also help to keep our flowers, vegetables and fruit trees healthy.
Let's take a peek inside and learn that butterflies have a lot in common with other creatures that go
flying and crawling by us.
Butterflies are insects. Other kinds of insects include beetles, moths, ants, bees, wasps, flies and bugs.
Scientists have estimated that there are trillions of these creatures flying and crawling all over the world!
There are insects that we see here in our area that are not found anywhere else on the planet!
Butterflies are insects with 6 jointed legs.
They have 3 body parts.
* Head
*Thorax (chest)
* Abdomen (the tail end)
Insects have a hard exoskeleton. This is a hard shell like covering on their bodies. It provides protection.

Some insects have two pairs of wings. Insects do not have a backbone. They are called invertebrates.
Butterflies may be the prettiest of all the insects.
