Visiting the coffee plantation in Colombia, South America was so interesting. We all said thank you to the farmers and they were so generous to give us each a second bag of coffee beans to bring home! I think they were so impressed with our whole group using good manners, saying things like please and thank you. Our last stop was to an emerald mine outside of Bogota. An emerald is a beautiful green stone, similar to a diamond. Miners dig them out of the Earth in huge chunks. A jeweler will polish the stone and cut it to make rings, necklaces and bracelets. All I can say is YOWZA, they are beautiful!! This last stop on our 7 continent journey is almost over and I am glad to be heading home tonight. We will head back to the airport and fall fast asleep knowing our next stop will be home.

As much as we enjoyed the Outback area in Australia, we were excited to see some of the beautiful coastline. Australia is an island, country and continent. Talk about beautiful scenery!! Our tour bus parked in a tiny town near the ocean. We walked to the beach and were amazed at how special it is to be here. The weather was warm but comfortable. Most of us just wanted to keep our eyes on the water, looking for the fins of the Great White Shark. Yup, they are very common here. You would have to give me one million dollars to swim in that water. I dipped my toes in but that is as far as I go. Thanks to my friend's eagles eyes, we were able to spot three fins out in the water! Holy Guacamole, that is amazing!! And a bit scary. I heard the lifeguard say that the surfers better get back to shore NOW!!

Taking our first steps outside of the airport in Sydney, Australia felt like we were in an oven! It was so hot outside. I am really glad that I found a water fountain and took a long drink of Australian water. We filled up our water bottles and headed to our hotel. When we got settled in our hotel room we thought we would we be heading out to go sight seeing. I was hoping we would go look for kangaroos and koala bears. Nope! Our teacher told us we had to sit down and write a long story about our trip. I suppose that is a good idea but why are teachers always teaching us something?? I guess that goes with the job.

One of the first things we learned about the continent of Antarctica is that there is only a small group of people who live here. The majority of them work for the US government and the US military. They do a lot of scientific research which helps people all around the world. They study some very small creatures under a microscope. The rest of them are tourists, like us, who want to learn about the continent. We also learned that everything that people need here has to be carried on a plane from another continent. They can't just go to Walmart to get their supplies. Food, clothing and medical supplies, in case someone gets hurt, are all brought by huge cargo planes. This continent is amazing but not somewhere that I want to hang out for days. This short trip to Antarctica took us to the southern most part of the planet Earth. Imagine how excited we were to see penguins out in their habitat. Pretty cool if you ask me. Time for another trip on the airplane.....

There are only 2 continents left on our trip so it wasn't hard to figure out where we were headed to next. Our teacher asked us to read a chapter book on this flight and tell her what we found out about the continent of Africa. Yup, that is our next stop. Africa is made up of 54 countries. We will stop in Ethiopia which is know for its world famous coffee beans and many world famous long distance runners. A lot of these long distance runners will run for 50 miles a day and some don't even own a pair of sneakers. They train in the mountains and that seems to help them become better long distance runners.

After a long few days in Australia, we boarded another plane and headed off to our next continent. This long adventure was more than half way done. If I had to pick my favorite right now it would be Australia. There were hours and hours of warm sun light and those shark fins were the bomb!! We settled in on the plane and heard the flight attendants talking about the freezing cold weather at our next destination. No doubt, we are heading to Antarctica. So glad I packed a lot of cold weather clothes. And I can't wait to see the penguins!!

This sight word hunt is exhausting but we are determined to find each word and enjoy the trip. Seven continents on the planet Earth and we will stop at each one. We spent our last night on the continent of Asia and will head to the airport after breakfast. We will travel by plane to the continent of Australia. Another long flight ahead of us but I do enjoy looking at the fluffy white clouds out the window. We made up the game called "What does that cloud look like?" and it is so much fun. I found one cloud that looked like my principal, Mr. Flanders. :) The flight went by so quickly. The pilot came over the loud speaker and said he hoped that our mothers told us to bring shorts, bathing suits and sunscreen. Hmm, sounds like we are headed to a warm climate.

Our amazing adventure was just about done. Who would have thought that we could see 7 continents and learn so much at the same time? Between the sharks, the street festivals and seeing dingoes in the Outback who wouldn't want to travel around the world!! I am a lucky traveler, for sure. As soon as we took off I leaned my head against the window and fell asleep. We arrived back in New York and as I expected, my family was at the airport to pick me up. I was so excited to see them and my mother said she couldn't hug me enough. I have so much to share about my trip but first, I sleep in my own cozy bed.

It wasn't long before we were back at the airport and ready for our last of the 7 continents. If you are keeping track, you know that we are headed to the continent of South America. There are a few things that I know for sure about South America. Coffee is a huge business in a lot of countries there. Many countries grow coffee beans but the best beans are from Colombia. Our trip will take us to the capital city of Bogota. We left our hotel and we hope that we don't get lost on the little dirt roads that lead to the coffee plantations. Like every good adventure we hope for the best but we shall see. Taking a wrong turn could get us stuck in the mud but sometimes you just have to laugh when things go wrong.....

We brought our writing journals on our adventure to the coffee plantations in Ethiopia. I was on my third page when our bus arrived at the plantation. Some people believe it was upon this land that the first people walked on the planet Earth. That is pretty cool. I am also excited to know that these fields are where the first coffee beans were found!! Mom says there is nothing better than a good cup of coffee!! I will definitely have beautiful memories to draw in my journal. Our last stop on the continent of Africa was to a small village. The people who live there have festivals every year that celebrate their culture and family history. It was so colorful and such a happy occasion!

After we spent about 45 minutes on our story we headed out to the Outback. That is what Australians call a huge area that is home to lots of animals and very few people. We made the long trip without stopping and I really needed to stretch my legs. Once we all got out of the bus we headed to see what animals we could find. It seemed like we were there for hours when suddenly we felt like we hit the jackpot!! Off in the distance there were so many dingoes and wild horses! I have never seen anything like that in my life. I definitely have a lot more to add to my writing journal once we get back to our hotel.

We arrived at the airport in Bogota and knew that we had to keep our group together. The main language in Colombia is Spanish and most of us don't know how to speak Spanish. I thought that this was a really good time for me to learn more words in a new language. Our stop at a coffee plantation was similar to the one in Africa. Here, we will get a chance to see how the beans are picked and how they roast them so they taste delicious. The owner of the plantation told us that we start the picking with clean hands only. After the beans are picked, we had to go through each basket and pick through and save only the best beans. These coffee bean farmers work really hard to give the world the best coffee ever!!
