Adorable looks
A Harp Seal is pretty fluffy as a baby. They are born with yellow fur, which soon becomes white. Then, they will shed their fur, which will show a thick gray coat of blubber. As a baby, Harp Seals have black, button-like eyes. They also have long whiskers on their muzzle. The baby Harp Seal is called a pup.

Adapting to Life in the Arctic
Harp Seal pups have the thick, white coats to bear the cold winters in the Arctic. The adult Harp Seals use their blubber to protect themselves from the cold. Their blubber also gives them nutrition when hungry. Harp Seals can stay underwater for a maximum of 16 minutes.

The Harp Seal Community
The population of the Harp Seal as of recorded in 2004 is 5,500,000. Harp Seals live in a community with a bunch of Arctic animals. Some examples are Arctic Foxes, Polar Bears, Arctic Cod, Narwhals, and Walrus. Adult Harp Seals prey on 65 different types of fish and 70 species of invertebrates. Harp Seals get eaten by Killer Whales, also known as Orcas, and large Sharks. Harp Seal pups often get eaten by Polar Bears, Arctic Foxes, and Wolves.

Harp Seals' Habitat
Harp Seals live in the Northern Atlantic Ocean and in the Arctic. They mostly live in the Sunlight Zone, then come up to feed their young. They then dive back in the water to feed themselves. The Arctic is one of the coldest place on Earth. That's why the Harp Seal has such thick skin; to bear the cold.
