Young entrepreneurs are inside each of our students and given the chance to express their ideas, they create great things. Opportunities for that expression often don't fit within the traditional structures of school. For 9 weeks over 3 summers, I was the Program Facilitator for the Young Innovators Program by Future Design School. The culminating experience was a pitch-style presentation to their peers, parents, and real angel investors who all gave invaluable feedback and support.

Using the human-centered design approach, I supported young adults to build iPad apps designed to solve real problems.

A community is shaped by stories and the people who tell them. Enabling storytellers is an essential function of a healthy and thriving community. Bringing a TEDx event to life in a school requires extensive collaboration with staff, students, parents, and a production team. As the head facilitator for the TEDx Youth event at the American School of Madrid, I empowered young people to find their voice and see themselves as storytellers.

I've spent 17 weeks over 15 years volunteering with Amor Ministries to build homes in Mexico. Homes that allow families to stay together. Communities establish faith, allow us to trust, and create meaning; the ingredients for creating and protecting hope. My role as a participant and then a site leader has shaped my worldview and perspective on the essential ingredients of communities, regardless of where they are in the world.

Educators open themselves up to constantly learning new ways to engage their students by turning to the internet for live streams, webinars, and blog resources. I seek ways to create a platform for others to voice their experiences as well as a place to voice my own.

As a subject matter expert on creativity, I help form communities centered on education and technology integration.

Education is a never-ending cycle and a routine that requires inspiration in order to be innovative and drive change. With boundless energy and a vision for education that doesn't fit inside the box, I am called to be that inspiration for educators. I have been a keynote speaker, the star of a self-produced 360 video show, the co-author of an EdTech book, and the lead facilitator of professional development events all over the globe. The result has enabled me to use my talents for bringing communities together in order to spread my passion for innovative change in education.

Sharing knowledge is critical to the collective strength of the global education community. As a coach and teacher trainer, I was tasked with sharing knowledge and connecting educators to build that collective strength.

My first podcast, Level Up Learning, aimed to engage and inspire educators with stories about current strategies and research in education. Later, I produced a show, The Press Release, that gave a platform to the voices of authors and educators. The result over the combined 4 years the shows were live was 17,000+ downloads of more than 35 episodes.

I spent 12 weeks over 2 years of secondary school working as a servant leader in the Camp Akita community putting the needs of others ahead of my own. Participating in a community means showing up for others. By doing much of the behind-the-scenes work that enables camp to run smoothly, I learned how to give of myself without seeking any credit or praise.

The coming projects in my life will involve showing up for inclusive communities that leverage the strengths of individuals to empower the collective.

As a member of the communities I belong to, including my work community, I do four things; I show up, I fit in, I hustle, and I learn. My resourcefulness, resilience, and flexible nature make me a great fit for small teams that work on big projects. I bring creativity and passion to my work as a designer and artist. My drive to tell stories and help others learn to tell theirs is fueled by my love for building strong communities that leave a positive legacy on the world. I am excited about the prospect of joining the growing team at Book Creator and look forward to the possibilities that await.

Google has without a doubt made a massive, global impact on educational technology tools and in turn, reshaped how teachers work. In order to make the most impact they need educators who are at the forefront of their industry and willing to share their time and knowledge. I have worked with Google as an innovation coach, trainer, and advisor on projects like The Google Certified Innovator Program and Google Earth for Education Advisory Board.

The HyperDocs Handbook was published in 2011 and reshaped how teachers all over the globe use technology to engage students. The book and methodology created a level of success that outgrew the vision of the founding team. I was hired to help iterate on the product and reach a larger audience. What started for me as a side project to leverage my systems design skills turned into the co-ownership of a revenue-generating website and brand that empowers thousands of teachers worldwide. Using the human-centered design approach I reshaped the brand identity, shifted the product to meet new market demands, and managed a project with teams in three countries. The project continues to be a success today.

I fostered transformational conversations between students and staff that resulted in a lasting changes to school culture.

Many students today struggle to escape the injustices of a system designed to hold them back. Strengthening creativity skills and access to the technologies and people that foster them is one way that communities come together to create equity. I supported Hampton City Schools teachers and students in the initial rollout of more than 12,000 iPads, a 1:1 initiative funded by grants from the state of Virginia. The result was a student population with access to the same tools for creativity and learning as everyone else.

Experiences that support a community to shift its culture are essential for creating a sense of belonging for everyone. Small group design sprints are an example of nontraditional learning experiences that drive human-centered change. As the project leader for the first Engage Week Experience at the American School of Madrid, I designed a program that empowered over 250 students to take action in their school community.

The projects that students designed and implemented reshaped their school culture to include more justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

New ideas and the change that comes with adopting them can often be daunting and require a guiding voice that has a vision that includes everyone. With the near-daily emergence of new technologies, educators are constantly tasked with learning how they may or may not fit into learning environments. As a Technology Coach, I have spent over a decade curating emerging technologies with action research into practical tools for learning.

The resulting downstream effect can be seen on the faces of students when they find clarity and understanding where there was once confusion.
