From The Artist:
"For this ep I really wanted to put an emphasis on the deterioration of this year. I wanted to start my album off with songs that musically were put together and cohesive but as you listen on, just like living through this year, the music becomes more split up and jumpy to represent the neverending events of this year. As far as as musical influence goes, I think I was very influenced by the stream "lofi hip hop radio - beats to relax/study to" by: ChilledCow on Youtube. Lots of the time I have the lofi music it streams on in the background while I go about my day. Over time I became more and more fond of the lofi type style of music and I think that is really represented in my music."

During one of the worst years gdawg has experienced, Kinda Over This Year takes a dive into what can only be described by the artist as "kind of like indie and lofi sounding". When asked about her intended audience for this album gdawg said, "For this ep I really wanted listeners to be able to understand and connect with my music, so with this, I really wanted to aim my music at younger people. I just feel like my style of music would be understood by younger people going through this year."
Rationale:
At this point of the year, I really felt like hopes were very much still high and people were using this time to reflect on what the pandemic had taught them. I chose this song to be the first one on my ep because I felt like t captures the overall vibe that sort of surrounded the summertime this year for me. I added things like birds chirping and calmer music to create a song that felt more relaxing and warm.

2020: But its still summer when people still had some happiness :)
Rationale:
This is a song that I collaborated with Jack Ayala with. When we worked on this song together school had been in session for a little bit and I was starting to get sadder and sadder. What can I say! For this first time ever I was really missing being at school! I feel like my sad state was emphasized in this song by my choice to make my part of the song more acoustic and sad sounding, I added the people in the background because it reminded me of school. Jack on the other hand added more lively music as his part of the track which made it a perfect choice for this album! the switch between sadness and liveliness really reflected what the beginning months of school were like as people started realizing that, compared to normal, motivation was hard to come by.

2020: But now school has set in and I'm feeling more sad and confused :/
Rationale:
As the winter months set in and finals began approaching I found myself in a place where I was so tired of this year I started losing my mind. I have found myself with so much work to complete but absolutely no motivation to do it. I haven't socialized in so long that my dad's jokes made me genuinely laugh. The only escape to happiness has been Abba for me so I made a song that has reflected this phase. In my song, I added Abba's "Dancing Queen" to a track that consisted of some calmer beats and a lofi background. The song starts out with an intro that reflects a record on a record table that is scratched and skipping. This I feel really represents my descent into madness. Throughout the song, the various changes in volume paired with skips and instrument changes reflects how chaotic and not very good these last few months have been
