The first day of winter is on December 21st. In the wintertime, I wear my warmest coat, gloves, and scarf. I like playing in the snow, but it doesn’t snow every year in Charlotte, North Carolina.
El 21 de diciembre es el primer día de invierno. En el invierno, me pongo mi abrigo más calientito, guantes, y una bufanda. Me gusta jugar en la nieve, pero aquí en Charlotte, Carolina del Norte, no neva todos los años.

My favorite thing to do in winter is build a snowman. One year, my children built a chair made of snow, and we sat in it! Mi cosa favorita de hacer en el invierno es un mono de nieve. ¡Un año, mis niños hicieron una silla hecha de nieve, y nos sentamos en ella!

The trees have lost their leaves and the air is very cold. I like to sit near a sunny window, drink a cup of hot chocolate and read a book. What do you like to do in the wintertime? Los árboles han perdido sus hojas y el aire está bien frío. Me gusta sentarme cerca una ventana, tomar una taza de chocolate caliente y leer un libro. ¿Que te gusta hacer en el invierno?

During winter, animals look for warm places to live and hibernate. Some live under rocks, leaves, and holes in trees. Mice and squirrels make tunnels underground and share homes. Durante el invierno, los animales buscan lugares calientitos para vivir e hibernar. Unos viven bajo piedras, hojas, y huecos en el árbol. Ratones y ardillas hacen túneles bajo la tierra y comparten hogar.

Some birds migrate south in search of warmer weather, and the monarch butterfly migrates as far south as Mexico. Unos pájaros emigran hacia el sur en busca de clima más caliente, y la mariposa monarca emigra tan lejos sur hasta México.
