Hawksbill turtle live up to 30 or 50 years, older then some humans!

4,600 turtles die from fishing and fish nets, 6 pack plastic rings, and plastic bags; this is in just one year. in 10 years there would be 46,000 hawksbill turtles that have died.

Hawksbill turtle are important for helping maintain the health of coral reefs! As they remove prey such as sponge's from the reefs surface.

Humans leaving garbage on the beach results in raccoons coming at night and eating the sea turtles.

In Japan for centuries hawksbill sea turtles have been part of a traditional culture. to this day they are still used in traditional wedding dresses, they call it bekko.

Once the baby sea turtle is in the ocean it has to stay away from predators to live. They swim in the ocean for about 4 hours then hop on floating driftwood or big clumps of seaweed  to stay alive. They also eat a little of the seaweed.

It was an obstacle to get to the ocean, some of the turtles did not make it. The baby sea turtles that made it hope that they will make it to adulthood.

The baby sea turtle grows older and older when it's in the ocean. The baby sea turtle is now a full grown adult. If sea turtle sees a shark it has to swim up to the surface and maybe get on a clump of seaweed to hide. Frightened, it may eat some of the seaweed that it's laying on, staying there patiently waiting for the sharks to leave. Once the Sharks leave the sea turtle continues on its journey. If they come across some jellyfish they swim deeper into the ocean. They might eat the jellyfish to grow big and strong and live up to 50 years old. They now know how to hunt and stay away from predators. When the time is right, they go back to shore and lay their own eggs.

Hawksbill sea turtles were hunted almost to extinction, resulting in selling Hawksbill sea turtle shell jewelry being banned. Still to this day people are selling Hawksbill sea turtle jewelry and usually get a fine or jail time. Tortoiseshell trade is what it is called to sell hawksbill sea turtle shell as jewelry. Hawksbill sea turtles are critically endangered in a unique way. One way we can make sure this comes to an end is telling people what the jewelry that they are selling is made of. if they sell hawksbill sea turtle shells then tell them this information.

A hawksbill's shape makes it so it can get into small cracks in the reef. These cracks are one of the places where they find sponges even though it is abundant in reefs.

Turtles have a built in G.P.S. system to find the beach where they were born. Scientists believe that it uses the earth's magnetic waves.

Coral reef sponges are the Hawksbills primary source of food. For most animals, these sponges are toxic due to the spicules (glass-like spines) they contain. However, the Hawksbill turtle is immune to this making its competition very small.

The beautiful Hawksbill shell is tough and effectively protects them from predators. However, they still fall&nbsp;<a href="http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/reptiles/hawksbill-turtle/">prey</a>&nbsp;to sharks, crocodiles, octopus, and the biggest predator of all, humans.

The Hawksbill Turtle is one of the smallest species of turtle. It is characterized by a narrow, pointed beak and a beautiful patterned shell, and it inhabits the warm, tropical coastline waters of the world’s oceans from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific and Indian Ocean as well.

Hawksbill sea turtles, known for their beautiful gold and brown shells, have been hunted for centuries to create jewelry and other luxury items. As a result, these turtles are now listed as critically endangered.

Even though sea turtles have spiritual and mythological importance in TONS of cultures around the world, this has not stopped humans from eating their eggs and/or meat.

Hawksbill turtles can eat Sponges that are toxic to other animals. The sponges are toxic in a way that could make other animals sick or even make them die.

Hawksbill Sea turtles live to about 30 to 50 years old. How did it make it to 50 years old? The Hawksbill turtle lives to 50 years old by eating the food they need to survive, like jellyfish, sponges,coral, mollusks, marine algae,&nbsp;crustaceans, sea urchins and small fish.

The hawksbill sea turtle life cycle starts with a little hatchling. It takes a long time for the little hatchling to dig out of the sand to get to the surface. When the it gets out of the sand it starts its Journey to the ocean. The baby sea turtle has a lot of obstacles on the way to the ocean. There lots of predators like crabs and seagulls. Only one out of 60 hatchlings makes it to the ocean. Once they make it to the ocean they have more obstacles like sea predators and trying to find food.

It was an obstacle to get to the ocean, some of the turtles did not make it. The baby sea turtle that made it hope that they will make it to adulthood.

Female hawksbill turtles return to the same nesting grounds where they were born to lay their eggs.

Hawksbill turtles are named after their pointed beaks, which resemble those of birds.

Hawksbill turtles are up to 45 inches (114 cm) long and weigh 110 to 150 pounds (50 to 68 kg)

Hawksbill Turtles use there back feet to dig a hole to lay their eggs and if its cold they will all be male and if its warm they all will be female.

Hawksbill turtles have been on this planet for the same time as sea turtles 100 million years.

A Hawksbill turtle is prey to sharks, crocodiles, octopus, and the biggest one, humans.

The Sea Turtle life cycle starts when a female turtle make a hole for her eggs and layed her eggs on a beach after she buries them. After the female turtle has layed her 130 to 160 eggs she goes back to the ocean. After about two months the baby hawksbills start to hatch. They come out of the sand and start their journey to the ocean. The baby turtles follow the moon to find their way to the ocean. It's a challenge for baby sea turtles to get to the ocean, they have some challenges on the way. If they are layed by the city they will maybe follow the city lights. If it is day, they have the crabs and seagulls to deal with.

As you can see in the 1950s-1960s hawksbill sea turtle nests have dropped down critically and over the decades have been growing. Then in 2009, it went back down.

Hawksbills use their birdlike beaks to eat their main food source, sponge. They help the environment by keeping sponges from taking over coral reefs.
