They've been hyping this game up since it was announced. I don't understand why, we are meant to blow out this team by 50. Their best player is worse than our worst player, they have no chance. Now here comes gameday.
Leading up to the game later that day everything was pretty much normal. There was the usual amount of encouragement, but weirdly there was no trash talk from the other team. The locker room before the game was buzzing as we were all excited to finally get a blowout this season. Our coach then gave us a pep talk that made us even more excited for this game, there was no way we could lose now. It's Gametime.
The ref threw the ball up and we won the tip-off. We took the ball down the court ran our opening play and hit a three, we had the momentum. We rode that momentum through the rest of the first half. Then at halftime, we didn't care anymore there was no way we could lose, we were just going to try and win by 60, but as we came back onto the court we weren't ready for what the other team had in store for us.
The other team came out and seemed almost confident even though they were down 30 points, despite that they came down the floor and scored on their first possession. They couldn't miss the rest of the quarter. They were only down 4 going into the fourth quarter. They came back and it was back and forth the rest of the quarter, then with three seconds left we hit a clutch shot and go up two points with 5 seconds left. They get the ball in and pass it to my man, I wasn't ready and he shot it... SWISH!
It is the worst feeling in the world when you let down your team and even worse when they blame you for it. As my teammates and coach were yelling at me I could only think about how this could be my final game.
