The sky became tented with warm colors of orange and yellow, the birds began to chirp as the sun rose over the hills, and all the animals on the farm started to wake. The farmer got up and began making rounds to feed the animals. He started with the cows and brought them their hay. Then he went on to the pigs to give them their slop. After tending to the pigs and cows, the farmer headed to the upper field. That is where the sheep stayed, the farmer's favorite was Sam. Sam was a four-year-old sheep whose mother failed to take care of him as a baby so the farmer had to bottle-feed him until he grew strong enough to no longer need milk, because of this Sam and the farmer had a special bond. The farmer walked up to Sam's pen, patted him on the head, and poured out his feed. Sam ate and then followed the farmer for the rest of the day. They walked out to where the horses stayed in the far pasture. Sam watched as the farmer took care of the horses just as he did for him. The sun began to set on the farm, so the farmer walked over to where Sam was. Sam was asleep beneath an oak tree that the two would watch sunsets under every night. The farmer patted him on the head, Sam snuggled up to the farmer and rested in his arms. They watched the sun go down. Then the farmer carried his lamb to the upper field. He laid him down, patted him on the head, and the farmer then walked back home.
