The waves were crashing into the rocks, breaking them piece by piece, bit by bit, trying to climb the cliff that was threateningly high. She was walking on the crest, unbothered, carried by the wind who was singing a sumptuous melody in her ears, her dress dancing in the cold air. Her moving silhouette was getting lost in the fog enveloping the tenebrous mountain. Dogs were barking from far away, and the shouting of the villagers screaming her name was getting lost in the pounding rain. She could see the fire burning in the lanterns from a distance, and she knew that if she didn’t get away fast enough, her body would receive the same fate as coal. She should’ve never shown her mother her abilities, knowing what happened to women with her powers. The stake. She should’ve never trusted her dishonest and cruel mom. But she wasn’t scared. No. She knew what she had to do, join him.

She didn’t have a lot of options. Considering how small the island was, it wouldn’t take them much time to find her. So step by step she advanced in the thick mud that covered the mountain. He was resting on the summit and she couldn't wait to join him. This feeling of euphoria was what drove her throughout the march, like a soldier coming back home to loved ones. She would no longer know pain or loss since they would be reunited. No, she would be free. She suddenly heard her mother’s voice scream her name louder than everyone else. Screaming her suffering. So she climbed faster. Who was she to suffer? She walked and she climbed, the ocean still by her side like a friend she never had. Finally, she saw the tree. Higher than everything else. Prettier than everything else. He was underneath it. She stood in front of her brother's grave and the shovel she had left next to it. She dug without stopping until she found the big brown box that has been her brother’s bed for a long time now. The little girl then went to sleep using her powers to close the earth over her, happily thinking about the beautiful yellow, red and pink flowers that would soon grow over them.
