It’s 6:45 on Friday, March 13, 2020. I wake up to my alarm clock ringing. I get out of bed and walk into my bathroom. I brush my teeth, get changed, eat breakfast, and grab my backpack and head to school. As we arrive at school, I see all the buses pulling into the school. They all stop, kids pore out of the buses with their backpacks slung over their shoulders. I get out of the car and push open the school doors.

The bell has already rung. Everyone heads off to their classes. The hallways are crowded, like normal. Everyone carrying their binders close, hurrying to get their lockers open, and running to get to their next class. It was almost impossible to get to your class without bumping into someone.

Classes pass, the bell rings a few more times, and about half the classes are done for the day. It was lunch time. Everyone hurries out of their classrooms to get to lunch. Tables packed with people. Everyone races to find a seat and sit with their friends. The best period of the day.

After lunch, I head to my last few classes. By the end of the day, I can’t wait for school to be done and hear that last bell to ring. Little did I know, I still haven’t heard that bell again.

School ends. Everyone is excited that school is over. I meet up with my friends and we go to my friend’s house. Later when I get home, I hear that school is out for 2 weeks. At the time, I thought it was the best news. I never knew that Friday, March 13 was going to be my last normal day of school.
