One day Rose was walking her dog through the park near her house. Suddenly her dog Hank burst off running towards the street. At the time Rose did not know that he heard a dog whistle. She started running after him. She saw three men put him in a cage in the back of their truck and then drove off. She sprinted after the truck, it finally arrived at an abandoned underground parking lot. Rose had passed this parking lot many times and did not think anything of it, only now she noticed the guard standing by the entrance. "Why is there a security guard at an abandoned parking lot?" she thought to herself. The truck pulled up and showed the guard an ID then went down underground. She waited until the guard's shift was over to run inside. She started walking down the ramp when she started to hear screaming. She followed the noise and wound up on the bottom floor of the garage where she saw bleachers. She walked up a staircase to see what was going on. When she got to the top of the staircase she was shocked. In the middle of the bleachers, there was a ring, the screaming she heard was actually cheering from the fans in the stands, and what shocked her most was the dogs wrestling in the middle of the ring!
She soon realizes that those men took dogs and brought them here to fight each other. All the people in the stands probably placed bets on what dogs would win! She ran out of there as fast as she could so she forgot about the guard! When she was about to be out the guard stopped her. "What are you doing running out of there so fast? And how on earth did you get in there?" asked the guard. "I um..... was just going down there to get my tennis ball!" She quickly pulled Hank's tennis ball out of her pocket. "Oh okay, you're free to go." Relieved, Rose ran to the police station and told them what was happening with the dogs. They told her that it probably was just her imagination but when she told them that the three guys had taken her dog they realized that's probably where all the missing dogs went! She showed them where it was and they arrested everyone inside. The three guys had taken over a hundred dogs and all day and night long the dogs would fight each other. They referred to it as the dog games and told the officers that their boss had threatened to kill them if they told anyone what was happening. The policemen asked who their boss was and they brought the officers to one of the biggest mansions Rose had ever seen. They found the guy's boss and arrested him for trespassing on private property and kidnapping dogs. Rose helped the officers find all the owners of the dogs and as a reward the police let her and her family move into the mansion! Her family didn't know what to do with all that space so they started a dog shelter bottom floor.
Rose grew up and inherited the mansion and helped over one thousand dogs find a home.
All About The Author
Her inspiration for this book was how unfair it is how dogs are mistreated everywhere and it needs to stop, and her favorite book the Hunger Games. She also has a two-year-old golden retriever Hank who she loves to death.
The author Maeve Enright is an 11-year-old girl who is in the fifth grade.
Some of her favorite hobbies are playing soccer, playing with her dog Hank, and reading. Maeve enjoys playing sports and plays a total of seven. out of the seven, her favorite is soccer, she is on a silver elite team and plays for the club CVU.
