He had just woken up. He had just woken up from another horrible night. Thomas had problems sleeping. He had been dealing with insomnia for a while now, since he was 19 years old and did not know how to come out to his mom.

His relationship with her was great. They had always been close. He was scared… he was scared he would ruin their relationship by coming out. She knew something was wrong. She could feel it. She, after all, was his mother and knew him better than anyone. That morning, as he was eating alone, his mom joined him. She told him about her concerns and so they talked. She told him she had called a therapist. She understood he might not want to talk to her about everything, but he needed to talk to someone. He didn’t believe in therapy but went to his appointment with an open mind. He stepped into the building and saw him getting in the elevator. The most beautiful young man he had ever seen. He rushed to the stairs. He needed to see him again. But as he arrived on the second floor, he noticed he was gone. And so, disappointed, he found his way to his therapist. He opened the door and saw him again, the same man. He couldn’t believe it, what a coincidence! He tried putting aside the fact that he might’ve just fallen in love and he opened up. He explained everything and he felt good. He had never told anyone about his sexuality before... he felt lighter than ever. As he got up to leave, he had completely forgotten about his crush… and that’s when he spoke. Thomas turned around. He looked shocked. The therapist repeated once again: “Would you go on a date with me? just one? please.” And so Thomas did. They talked, they talked, they talked, and Thomas revealed his strong feelings but also explained how he couldn’t jeopardize his relationship with his mom for someone he had just met. He wanted it to work, he really did, but just couldn’t bring himself to talk to his mother. He walked home with a heavy heart and tried getting his therapist out of his head, but once there, he realized he couldn’t. He thought maybe he’d try and talk to her... And after loads of tears and tissues, he felt good. And maybe it was his mother’s comforting words, but he decided to call him. “Would you go on a date with me? Just one? Please.” And so the therapist did.
