Just to get a bag of chips

The store remained empty. The breezy wind blew dark and quiet. Our footsteps led us to the front entrance. A locked glass door. Everything inside seemed dark and peaceful.

I held a rock in my hand, ready to throw at the thick glass pane. Slowly, we crouched back toward the parking lot, making sure no one saw anything. My hands started to shake. I started chewing my lips.

Walking slowly into the store, the alarm started blaring. Suddenly in a hurry, we rushed inside to the snack aisle. The same thought kept running through my head: will we get caught, will we make it out safely?

Hurriedly, we each grabbed a bag of chips and then head straight out the door into the car in the parking lot. We drove away as fast as we could, through the highway, and past the traffic lights.

We couldn’t even see the cars around us. There was a tremendous blur.

Just to get a bag of chips.
