I write this stuck up a palm tree, being chased by a mad swamp monster. My friend Kat and I were on a trip to a paradisiacal island - a lottery prize. The island was a perfect circle with marvellous white sand, huge palms and a dark forest at its heart. From the sea it looked heavenly, but as soon as we disembarked and the boat sailed away it started raining cats and dogs. We went into the forest, to find shelter from the rain. As we ventured further and further into the forest, it became darker and darker. Dead, decaying, massacred bodies, covered with blood were everywhere; some with their organs out, some hanging on the trees, executed. Groaning, rumbling and grunting sounds surrounded us, but we were still roaming through the forest, under the heavy, freezing rain.
After a long time traversing the island, pressured by the sounds, we encountered a massive swampy area. A square, wooden, aboriginal mask was floating on top of the dirty water. When Kat tried to reach the mask, it abruptly rose up and a cactus-like, long, green body appeared underneath it. Its eyes were glowing and it had a short spear with a big, sharp blade in its hand.
We jumped up and ran away as fast as we possibly could. We could hear roaring and murmuring behind us, but we dared not turn around to see. At the worst possible moment Kat fell down and broke his leg and a giant tree crashed down on top of his body. I stopped and tried to pull him out, but I couldn't.
"We shouldn't have won this trip; it's all my fault," I whispered.
"No Liah, it's me who should have warned you. Remember, free cheese is only found in a mousetrap," Kat grunted.
The thing was getting closer and closer, but I was frozen, not able to do anything.
"Run Liah!" Kat whispered and pushed me with his hand.
I ran, looking back every few steps. The monster cut off Kat's legs with its sharp spear, and picked him up. My legs felt like they would not carry me any further, so I climbed the closest palm tree in sight.
The creature came and glowered at me, with the yellow glow visible through the mask. It was holding a hook, as well as the spear, with Kat thrown over its thin shoulder. He tied the hook to the tree branch, and tied Kat up. My friend was there, screaming and shouting and I was here, safe...for now. Then, the monster took the spear and cut off Kat's arms, like it did with his legs. It left him there and stared at me for a minute, with Kat screaming in agony at the background. It wasn't over; the maniac cut my friend's squirming body into two unequal parts, so that the organs slid down to the ground. A last scream turning into a painful howl, then silence - only the sound of the rain still pouring down. It came closer to my tree; it couldn't climb up because its skin was too greasy and slippery, so it started scratching the trunk. I felt as thought I was at the end of the lifeline.
Suddenly, the rain stopped and the sun came out. The creature's skin started burning with a yellow fire, then the bones, and then nothing was left of this beast, except his spear.
