SCISSORS
I opened my eyes and groaned in annoyance as my alarm clock went off in the distance. I could already hear the sounds of cars and people screaming at each other. It was far too early for this, but today was the day, Rock Paper Scissors Day.
Over the past few years, NYC has become extremely overpopulated that the city had to come up with a plan. Once a year on July 19, the entire city gathers in Central Park to play a game of rock paper scissors. All people ages 14-18 go to the center to play. Everyone is paired up by drawing a name from the hat. Each game is best 2 out of 3, the winner gets to go home and the loser is sent off to an island 28,000 miles southeast of NYC, never to be seen again.
When my name was called, I stepped up to the hat and grabbed a piece of paper. I felt my heart drop as I saw the name of my sister Layla. I looked into the crowd and saw my mother's face go pale. My sister is only 14, she hasn't gotten to live yet. Her red ponytail swayed back and forth as she walked up to me and gave me a big hug. I don't think she fully understood what was happening, but I did. I knew only one of us was going home and it had to be her. I looked into her dark green eyes and told her that everything would be okay.
They started the first game and I had no idea what I was going to do. They started counting down and I decided to go with paper, Layla went with scissors. Maybe this would all work out, all I had to do was lose. In the second game, I chose to do scissors, but to my surprise Layla did paper. It all relied on this last game. Either I lose this game or I lose her.
