"The mysterious key" by Marta Adamczyk
He stepped out of the shadows and walked towards me. I was debating whether I should scream for help or start running. The mysterious man was getting closer and closer and I froze to death. He nervously looked at me, put something small in my pocket and whispered “Be careful.”
After I had lost him from my eyesight, I looked at the mysterious object in my hand. It was a small golden old key with number 12 engraved on it. I was so confused. ,,Why’d some strange guy give it to me? It had to mean something.” I was thinking about it all the way home. Before sleep, I had been looking for some clues like the nearest old hotels on the Internet. I found only one, which was opened in the early 20s, so I decided to visit the place the next day. While I was sleeping I had a peculiar dream. I thought that I was hearing the voice of that man. I didn’t feel anxious at all, which later made sense. After I had woken up, I headed for my destination right away. When I got there, I realised that there was dust everywhere and you could see cobwebs on the furniture. The place was so cluttered that I found it almost impossible to carelessly walk around. I suddenly saw a familiar figure in the distance. I don't know why but I followed him. He entered room 12 and locked the door. As I was starting to give up, I reminded myself about the ace up my sleeve. The key. I was so fed up with this mystery. I opened the door and saw a dark figure. When he turned around I recognised the man from the day before. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was my older brother who had moved abroad many years ago!
He couldn’t stop laughing and only said to me “That is probably the best joke I have ever played on you” At first I was furious but then I decided that there was no need to be angry at my brother Tom forever. I congratulated him on the idea and threatened that I would come up with an even better prank.
