Anxiety. What is it? And how can you deal with it?
As someone who has this mental disorder, I can tell you that it is not easy to live with. Overthinking every single aspect of your life, not being able to set worries aside, and lack of concentration are a few of the issues with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). This is the type of anxiety most people suffer from, including myself. Only in the United States, a bit over 3 million people are diagnosed with this yearly.
Even though there isn’t an actual cure, it can easily be treated with therapy. Avoiding caffeine and anti-depressants can also help treat the feeling of tension that comes with GAD. According to the American Psychological Association, also known as APA describes anxiety as “an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure”.
If you know someone with anxiety you are able to help them by doing simple and easy things, such as acting calm if you notice they’re panicking, and not making assumptions about what they’re feeling. I know it sounds like it’s cliche, but it does work, and pretty well.
If you are wondering if you have anxiety, it is recommended that you look for a doctor in order to receive a proper diagnosis, even though you might be able to identify it on your own.
In conclusion, having anxiety is extremely common all around the world with people of all ages. It can be treated with therapy and relaxation. If you believe you have this condition, check with a doctor.
