At the beginning of time, Deer was trekking along the stone path with a big smile from ear to ear. Just then, Hare was coming out of his den near a forest filled with trees and other plants. Hare thought to himself, ‘Oh, my! Why, Mother Earth is always dark! I can't see anything whenever I'm trying to go somewhere.’ Disappointed, Hare walked back towards the blackness of the unilluminated den.

Later on, Deer was visible through the trees near Hare's den. 'I expect Hare to be in his cave,' Deer thought to herself while walking. Hare came out of his den. He saw Deer coming closer.

"Hi, Deer," said Hare looking depressed. Hare gestured to Deer to come closer.

"Hi, Hare!" said Deer enthusiastically unlike Hare who was slouching on a nearby tree.

After a good meal of grass and berries, Hare hung his head again, saying to Deer, "Mother Earth gives no brightness to us."

"I agree with you, but Mother Earth must hear this complaint first. Without her permission, we cannot do anything about it," replied Deer sorting out why Hare was in the blues. "We can go and talk to her later at the highest cliff that we can find."

Hare heard this and thought to himself, 'This is a good idea. I will wake up early after a good sleep. After a meal, we can find a cliff.' Hare told Deer this and she agreed.

Meanwhile, Mother Earth was listening to the complaint. She sighed, “I must make myself brighter, but I cannot tell Deer and Hare right now. I must tell them when they are on the cliff. How can I make myself brighter?” After having a space of time to think, Mother Earth declared, "To make myself brighter, I will make a new star called Sun. I will make her with many figures shining."

Shortly after, Hare and Deer woke up to go to the highest cliff that they could find. After searching far and wide, they finally found one, and it looked tall enough. They brought food, water, and a basket to carry it all. Mother Earth saw this and followed them. When Hare and Deer got to their destination, they told Mother Earth, "There is no light for us, please do something."

Mother Earth replied, "I know that and I am going to make Sun, which will be the one to give light. Wake up tomorrow and you will find it very different."

Hare and Deer went home, thinking to themselves, 'What will Sun look like?' Well after all the animals went to sleep, Mother Earth created lots of bright figures. Creating about a million figures, which she named stars, she flattened each one to form circles. Then, she squished them together and made a big ball of light. Finally, she picked up Sun and placed her into the dark night.

When Hare and Deer heard the rooster’s call to wake up, they stood up and looked. They dropped their jaws. It wasn't like before. Just like Mother Earth had promised, they saw Sun. They were blinded by the light. Mother Earth saw this and she moved Sun away with her hands. Some stars stuck to her hands. It was around time to go to sleep and she threw the remaining stars into the sky after taking Sun out. That time on, the Sun comes in the morning to light up the sky and the stars come in the night.
