The warm spring air danced by. Skyscrapers towered over the roads and buses. People rushed through the streets of the city. Cars were honking like nobody's business. Seagulls flew by, eating at the crumbs of left behind food.

Owen walked through Madison Square Park to get back home from school. His apartment was very close to the Park. Right around the block, actually. He looked at his feet as he walked. On the typical day, his father would pick him up from elementary school and they would discuss football and sports. Its been a month since he left. He looked at one of the park benches he and his dad would always sit at to feed the birds. Owen closed his eyes to hold back the tears. Owen was munching on his carrots that his mom packed from school. Suddenly, a stray gray puppy was padding beside him.

"Aww. Hi girl!" Owen said glancing at the puppy. The puppy barked. Owen looked at his carrots and back at the dog.

"You're hungry aren't you?" Owen asked, pulling out a carrot. He bent down with the carrot on his palm. The gray puppy sniffed the carrot and bite it. She chewed on it for a second and quickly went back to get the second bite. Owen giggled as she licked his palm. He hadn't laughed for a long time, not since his father died.

"Let's bring you to my house. I'm sure you'll love it there! It's big and you can sleep in my room! Oh, and Mom has a ton of carrots!" The puppy's eyes twinkled. Owen smiled and walked side by side with the puppy back home.

His mother waited for him at the foot of the apartment, and hugged him as he arrived. "How was school?" She asked.

"It was okay, we started learning about poems. But when I was coming home, I found a puppy. Can we keep her? PLEASE?" Owen pleaded holding his hands together. His mom grinned and put her hand on his shoulder.

"As long as you take care of her," she said. Owen ran upstairs with the puppy. "I haven't seen him smile in a long time." His mom wiped a tear of her face. It had been a rough month and finally some sun was peaking out of the rain.

Owen showed the puppy around his apartment. "We need a name for you. How about Madison? Since I found you at Madison Square Park." Madison barked in agreement. Owen stroked her fur.
