Magnet Coordinator
Kira Craig
Ms. Craig is a National Board Certified educator who has worked in LAUSD for 24 years. Her career includes teaching English/Language Arts to all of the middle-school grade levels, mentoring student-teachers, and serving as a literacy coach. She taught 8th Grade English in PAVA for two years before the opportunity to be the coordinator emerged. Making the choice to step out of the classroom, reflects how highly she thinks of the teachers and the students who are a part of this magnet.

Performing and Visual Arts at PHMSi
PAVA's vision is to provide a rigorous learning environment where students experience the arts through its integration into their core classes as well as through the in-depth study of various artistic disciplines. We believe providing this environment for our students will propel them to excel academically, value the process of learning, and become lifelong learners who will be college and career-ready.

In English, we learned all about different types of writing, such as argument and creative. We read a short story called "The Hitchhiker" by Lucille Fletcher and a novel called Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.

Ever curious about how choreographers get their inspiration? Well, you are in luck because currently we are learning about the world of Modern Dance and how using Pantomimes and gestures (real life movements) can be inspired into creating realistic dances. Who would have ever thought I can turn something as simple as brushing my teeth into a dance!?!
We had to make a 1-minute pantomime of a story we made up.
