Magnet Coordinator
Kira Craig
Ms. Craig is a National Board Certified educator who has worked in LAUSD for 24 years. Her career includes teaching English/Language Arts to all of the middle-school grade levels, mentoring student-teachers, and serving as a literacy coach. She taught 8th Grade English in PAVA for two years before the opportunity to be the coordinator emerged. Making the choice to step out of the classroom, reflects how highly she thinks of the teachers and the students who are a part of this magnet.

PAVA's vision is to provide a rigorous learning environment where students experience the arts through its integration into their core classes as well as through the in-depth study of various artistic disciplines. In English, we learned all about different types of writing, such as argument and creative. We read a short story called "The Hitchhiker" by Lucille Fletcher and a novel called Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.
Wow

My favorite assignment...
I chose this because I liked the drawing I did and how I drew the plant cell.
Amazing
In Science, we've learned about natural systems, living systems, cells, body systems, and much more.

My favorite assignment...
Math topics include the following: GCF/LCM, rates and proportions, integers, expressions and equations, and statistics. If time allows, we get into basic geometry. We also do a handful of hands-on projects throughout the year.
I chose my Math Menu Project because I am really proud of the layout and how I did it.

About the class...In History, we are studying Ancient Civilizations. We have studied ancient Egypt, Israel and Greece. We are learning about different cultures by learning about their history, music, dance, art, and literature.
We learned about the Greek gods and goddesses and have done slide presentations.
My favorite assignment...
I chose this report because I spent a while working on it and wrote a lot, so I'm pretty proud of that.

Ever curious about how choreographers get their inspiration? Well, you are in luck because currently we are learning about the world of Modern Dance and how using Pantomimes and gestures (real life movements) can be inspired into creating realistic dances. Who would have ever thought I can turn something as simple as brushing my teeth into a dance!?!
My favorite assignment...
I chose my Ballet Video Dictionary because I spent SO LONG working on it! Literally, I was even recording after dinner because I took a break for pizza. Whew.
