Typical Livestock on a North Dakota Farm By: Ty Peterson First there are cattle They like to moan and they like to rattle Then there are sheep they give wool But they are nix full Then there are pigs and they give off bacon Sometimes they are dumb Nevertheless they aren't reputed There are goats they'll eat anything But sometimes they think they're the king For gratification folks acquire chickens They never cease kicking and pecking Lastly there are geese and guineas too.

We based our poem on the nonsense poem of Ladles and Jellyspoons. We brainstormed lots of ideas in small groups and then our teacher put them together to create our version of Ladles and Jellyspoons.

Get up to the school; leave your bag at the gate. No running allowed, quick hurry you’re late! Open the door, Come through the Wall The speaker was talking but was way too tall There is a meeting for parents but only kids can stay Stand over there, please move out of away This announcement is important, really it’s not! It’s been very rainy and really quite hot. Feel free to write notes, put the pencil aside Open the window, the paint hasn’t dried. Meet over there, I’ll be right here. Take a stand, leave your seat and have no fear!

This is Mississippi.

This is where the Swallow Tail Butterfly lives.

And you can hear a Mockingbird sing.

And you can smell the Magnolia Tree.

And you can go see the Bottlenose Dolphin playing in the water!

Prairie Dogs By: Cambria Wadholm Fat and plump from prairie grass, Digging deep, dark tunnels, Now the snow is pouring away, Through the holes you've made like funnels! Although you're very sleepy, You're waiting for spring to come, You must stay awake, If you want to see the sun! I've seen them on the plains and prairies, Even when it's dark, I love them, big and even little, Especially their yelp and bark! Summer is here, What'll you do, Let's watch and observe, I know you'll munch and chew! Now you're very, very sleepy, From all the things you've done, You'll look forward to the future, And look forward to more fun!

The Mighty Mississippi River

Where you can see The Mississippi River
And you can hear the steamboat moving down the river
And you can see the water

The State of the Man in the Mountain, and of Me

The tallest of mountains, the most towering of trees, Are all I see as I gaze up. I feel things standing in this same place. The drizzle of rain, patting my face in spring, Or the soft tickle of snow, melting on my cheeks in winter. Or the blanket of warmth that covers my ears in summer, Or even a brittle leaf of bright red or yellow or brown, bristling my nose in fall. As time passes, a feeling will vanish, And it will be replaced with a new one. New Hampshire is close enough to the equator to have warm summers, And far enough from it to have cold winters, But even the bitterest of weather, The harshest of seasons, Will not stop my love for New Hampshire. And as these feelings come and go, They are no longer feelings. They are sensations. The kind that makes you smile like Christmas Morning, And the kind that keeps me here, in New Hampshire.

Whitestone Battlefield By: Joe Tschosik Whitestone Battlefield the hill wide and tall It towers over it all. As the rain showers down on the field. Flowers cover it all. Hours before the sun wakes from its slumber. Snakes crawl around on the ground. As people lay sprawl on the ground. Birds squall all around. Prairie Rose By: Carli Merkel Petals are used for medicines. Rose Arkansana are beautiful. A flower found in North Dakota. It is also found along roadsides, pastures, and native meadows. Rose hips have vitamin C, E, and K. It is North Dakota’s state flower. Extremely famous in North Dakota. Rose Arkansana has bright pink petals. Omg you really need to see this flower. Some are really pretty. Extremely pink.

There was a time There was a time when magic was real the sun shone with our smiles and life was so simple. There was a time when we saw rainbows above the sky and nothing mattered because our lives revolved around games and fun. There was a time which is captured deep in our hearts. There was a time when we were naive when everything was love and peace. There was a time when were kids. Wouldn`t you like to come back?

They really ought to call Nevada the geode state. 

Look closely and you will understand why. 

Look at the way the jewel of the sky rises every day without fail,

Its reflection glittering in the crystalline pureness of a pool of water. 

Look at the way the Joshua trees and the wind converse with each other in the quietest of whisperers. 

Look at the way the blooms smile when the unpredictable sky weeps. 

Nevada is a geode, with luxurious riches just inches from your eyes.

Hey there locker…in front of me,
I can hear you screaming, “Open me!”

37 left, 35 right but… then what?
 
Finally, I remember and open the door

I grab my books and say goodbye

We are a bunch of elementary school English language learners from Mentor, Ohio! Writing this poem took us a while. We spent a long time researching all of our native countries. We hope you enjoy our poem, please! Luciana's family is from Peru. When she visits there, she can go to the zoo. In Peru this summer, Luciana got her picture with a camel and a sheep But the chickens woke her up early and made it hard to sleep. Dev is from India, and it is such a beautiful place That it brings a smile to his face. A popular sport in India is cricket. To see a game, you need a ticket! Mexico is Tanya's country with lots of beautiful stuff to see. People like to celebrate and have a fiesta. Then they are tired so they take a siesta! Jason's country is China whose dialects are Mandarin and Cantonese. Jason's brother Jimmy hates to eat cheese. In China, you can use chopsticks to pick up rice and meat. That is a way chopsticks help you eat!!

Keelan is from Germany and the colors of his flag are yellow, red, and gold. At night in Germany sometimes it gets cold. In Germany, schweinebraten is tasty meat That is so good Keelan likes to eat.

Arizona's weather is hot, brisk, dusty, rainy, stormy, cloudy but clear nights. Sometimes it’s cold in the nights and morning. On the hot days it is really hot. On the cold days it’s stormy and sometimes dusty. by Israel Espinoza 9th grade

About AZ by Sally Jo Ornelas 9th Grade It’s very hot in AZ, and sometimes its very cold. In the early part of the day, it’s very cold. In the night time, it’s very cold, too. But then you think you’re lucky, because it is not hot and that you got it made. Sometimes you’re not lucky. Sometimes it is so hot that the paint on the cars starts to peel off. Bobcats in North Dakota By: Carson Axt Let me tell you about the bobcats in North Dakota, Bobcats have short bobbed tails, their cousins are the lynx, bobcats are excellent hunters, they have stealth and patience, they have lots of dens, they come in different colors, they need lots of shelter, I hope you learned more about North Dakota's bobcats.

People work in Tower City. People live there too. You can play, slide, walk, or swim. There is a lot to do.

Some towers are tall and some are small. They are all different colors and shapes. People can sleep or take a rest, or have fun when you are awake. If someone breaks the law you call for assistance. The police and super heroes are kind and happy. Then you can sit in your tower, relax, and watch, The Vikings with your frog Hoppy.

Prairie Rose By: Amanda Strong Pink is the color of the flower with a yellow clustering the center. Rain gives them food. Are used for medicines since the ancient times. Iowa also uses the Wild prairie rose as their state flower. Rose hips are a fruit from the rose which forms the base of the flower. Inside the rose hips, medicine which improves cholesterol and blood pressure. Exciting to find on the side of the road. Road sides, pastures, and native meadows are some of the places that you can find this flower. Over a hundred years ago it became the state flower in 1907. Seen in North Dakota and all over the United States. Earths natural baby is is the Wild Prairie Rose.

Whitestone Battlefield By: Joshua Overbey The Sioux fought though the war, Alfred Surly surely wanted to win, Sitting Bull the chief lead into battle, The graves sit on the top of the hill, That battle was a massacre, They were fighting for land.

Western Meadowlarks By: Damian McDowell Western meadowlarks are so beautiful, Meadowlarks have such a beautiful singing voice, Elm Lake larks chirp so nice in the morning, And they have such gleaming colors, Don't you just love the sound of chirping birds in the morning, Oh how they fly so beautifully, Wow. Larks are so quiet when they hide from predators, And they love to eat bird feed, Rise they do when they fly, Kay was the name of one in the park in LaMoure.

North Dakota Stockmen's Association By: Calli Hauck Wssh the tornado hits the ground and ruins everything. Vrmm you hear the stockmans pickup coming to help you. The pickup pulls up,you are relieved they have come. Moo goes the cow without any shelter to protect her. The food for the cattle is gone,but they brought some more. You are nervous when they come to brand inspect your cows. You feel happy that they came to help you feed the world. You are glad that they help you find what to feed your cows. You are thankful they protect your cattle from danger. You are glad they can help you so you can raise good beef.

Wild Prairie Rose By: Madison Anliker North Dakota's State flower is the Wild Prairie Rose. It has 5 petals when it grows. It grows along the county road. Showing off it's beauty. Medicine is the extra duty. Yellow is in the middle. Prairie roses aren't very little. They make me shout, Wild prairie roses are far out.

Buffalo By: Levi Reis B ­ Buffalo were almost extinct in the old days and U ­ Unless they are mean and angry, they probably will not charge. F ­ For safety keep your distance, F ­ Fox hunting isn't it's thing, A ­ As fast as 30 miles an hour buffalo can speed. L ­ Living as long as 15 years in the wild, O ­ Oh buffalo, you are quite the mammal!

I’m a beacon of light on the shores of the barrier islands shining for all to see, In the spring see flowering Azaleas, Pine Trees, Dogwoods and the yellow honey dust that makes you sneeze. Look up at the sky, watch the sun beam bright and feel the warm sunbeams. Home to Andrew Johnson, James Polk, Michael Jordan, Andy Griffith, Scotty McCreery, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. I’m a tailgater at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Carolina Partners Stadium and the Dean Dome. I munch on grits, biscuits with gravy, barbecue, fried chicken, fresh collard greens, and seafood downed with a big cold glass of sweet tea. The 12th state to join the United States and the 1st in flight. Hear the birds tweet and feel the soft fur of the animals. Home to the endangered red wolves, the cardinal, the honeybee, channel bass, and foxes the color of the red hot sun. Touch the fluffy cotton that grows here in the country side. Sun tanned skin, footprints in the sand, sizzling hot waters. Feel the sparkle of the sea on your tiny piggie toes. See the hurricanes roaring by. First settled by The Lost Colony in 1587 and home to a dangerous pirate: Blackbeard and his fortress on Okcracoke. See the blueberry sky and walk on the huge Grandfather Mountain. Everyday Melbourne is growing, The river is flowing as people are rowing, The animals are roaming as the Melbourne Zoo is closing, The shops and cafe's are always ready and going, Melbourne's true spirits are 'ALWAYS' showing! Melbourne is the place to be, When you are in Melbourne you'll see. There's parks, there's buildings, there's lots of fun. There is nature, culture and lots of sculptures. As you now know, You can go high to the sky or low below. You can even go with the flow on river Yarra. Now do you see there's only one place to be, It's next to the sea it's Melbourne city! The natural beauty rivals with the man made marvels of the state.

Kopila Valley School was built in 2010 to serve students in Surkhet Valley (Nepal) who come from low socio-economic, multi-caste and disadvantaged back grounds. Our school is a safe place for students to come, who would otherwise not be able to afford a formal education. Our students who wrote this poem represent 59% of Nepal's population of students who are able to stay in school through 8th grade and 66% of the literate population

Through this land we will roam, this place called North Carolina is our home. We've got mountains, plains, and beaches and important fact this poem teaches. The state flag has a white star and also one red and white bar. It has the letters NC and the dates remind us when we became free. The North Carolina state dog is a Plott Hound. It weighs up to 55 pounds. Plott Hounds are super smart. For them, hunting is close to their heart. The petals are red, pink, and white. The Dogwood flower is a beautiful sight. It will bloom in the spring, and in summer fruit it will bring. The Cardinal has a black mask on its face. The bright, red color makes it easy to see all over the place. It sings in the winter, spring, summer, and fall and never leaves North Carolina at all. We adopted the Pine in 1963. It's best known as the Christmas tree. Sticky sap they create. Use their pinecones to decorate. On the map, we are all they way to the east. Our state is beautiful to say the least. North Carolina is a comforting spot for our beds, where we rest our sleepy heads.

In our class we have students who rent rooms on their own, whose families
lost everything in flash flooding this Fall, who played in and won a local
soccer tournament for the first time, who get up at 5:00AM every morning to
come to school for extra classes, who go home to little or no food each
evening and some who speak 3 languages, English being their third. As a
class, we found it challenging to write a poem that represented all of the
students experiences and the experiences of so many others who have not had
the opportunity to have a voice. We hope that readers of this poem will
feel sorrow, curiosity, happiness and above all hope.

North Dakota Weather By: Alea Steinwand North Dakota weather changes all year round. First lets start with spring and I'll show you around. In spring you see baby deer Everywhere you look. In fall they're good to hunt then cook. What makes me happy is the smell of sweet cut grass. You can also go fishing and catch a bass. The hot summers make You want to swim. It's also time to give the bush a trim.

Georgia is known for its peaches, And down south there are beaches. The beaches are near Savannah, The capitol is Atlanta. It's the 24th biggest state, There's more just wait. The population is 9.92 million, We have some animals that are reptilian. The flag has red, white and blue, If you don't believe me look it up because it's true. The state song is Georgia on my Mind.
