About Our Class
We are Jaguar class and are in year 5 at Katherine Semar Junior School in Saffron Walden, Essex.
We love writing poems and have included our favourites from this year. We have even included our class song, which after all is a poem set to music. We are really proud of our work and hope that you enjoy reading and listening as much as we have enjoyed writing and performing them.

What a poem is not!

A poem is not an airplane
but it can be quite a flight.
A poem is not a balloon
but it can be popped.
A poem is not a caterpillar
but it can make its way through.
A poem is not a dog
but it can find its home.
A poem is not an elephant
but it can be big.
A poem is not a frog
sometimes it can be bouncy.
A poem is not glass
- you can see right through it.
A poem is not a horse
but it can take you for a ride.
A poem is not ice-cream
but it can feel cold.
A poem is not a Jack-in-the-box
but it can surprise you.

but it can make sense.
A poem is not a volleyball
but it might feel bouncy.
A poem is not water
that will slip from your grasp.

although it can have twists and turns.
We are Jaguars!
Jaguar
My spots are a reward of pride,
My amber eyes are open wide,
When I see my prey I hide,
I spy,
And finally,
I fly.
I'm running,
Running fast as the wind,
Once again I leap,
That deer is mine.
by Jessi
Jaguar
Amber eyes like dark crystal slits,
You hide without fear in grey wolves' pits.
Ears like knives, it's easy to hear,
A scratch on your body, it's just a blood smear.
You move slick as a dolphin, with never a pause,
Rips with one slash with your sharp, daggered, claws
