The Life of Steve Chen

Selling YouTube Later he would decide to sell YouTube, but to whom had to be decided. In order to avoid investors and venture capitalists, he met with Yahoo and Google at the same Denny's restaurant. I believe he chose Google because it was larger, and gave creators, viewers and buyers monetization without hurting their users. In 2006, Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion.

AVOS systems In 2011, Steve Chen and Chad Hurley founded AVOS systems, which was their base of operations and allowed them to pursue seperate projects.

Closing Steve Chen has moved back to Taiwan, but the story of YouTube doesn't end here, as his work continues to be used.

Introduction Many people know of YouTube. Entertainment such as music, documentaries and much more can be found on the site. But what most people don't know is where YouTube started. Of the three founders, Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim, my focus on Steve Chen here is because I want to talk about Asian-American accomplishments.

Early Life Steve Chen was born in Taiwan, on August 25, 1978. When he was only 8, he moved to America, specifically the state of Illinois. This is where he began his important education. (not his house ⬇)

Nom.com In march 2016, Chen founded nom.com, a website about food. It was designed like YouTube but made specifically for foodies and the like to share videos on everything food-related. It was like the food version of Twitch.

The nom.com website was successful at first, but viewers began to lose interest. In March 2017, the website quietly shut down. It appeared a streaming website would not be as successful a second time.

Education Steve Chen went to school at River Trails for middle school, and John Hersy High School. Learning coding and the newest tech, he earned a degree in computer science at the University of Illinois. These skills would prepare him for the creation of YouTube.

Marriage At the age of 31 years old, Steve Chen married a Korean woman named Park Ji-Hun, who worked at Google.

Work In 1999, Steve Chen began to work for Paypal. While he was working there, he met two very important people who would change his life, but he did not yet know it. These people were Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim, the other founders of YouTube. He then moved to Facebook, though he quit several months later to start YouTube. Inspiration In 2005, at a party with Chad Hurley, they wanted to share videos but found it wasn't easy. Instead of waiting for other people to invent something better, they took matters into their own hands.

Taking a chance He knew this opportunity would not be there for long. If he went two years without success or if he ran out of money, he would try to get a job at Paypal again. Luckily, YouTube was successful, due to the fact that viewers, creators and buyers were all happy using it.
