California has forests, mountains , valleys, and desert. The San Andreas Fault is in California. A fault is a break in Earth’s crust. Earthquakes happen along the San Andreas Fault.

California has many exciting places to see. Disneyland is one popular place. People also like to visit the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The California state tree is the California redwood. California redwoods are the tallest trees in the world. They usually grow 200 to 300 feet tall. The poppy is the state flower. It has golden yellow petals. The California quail is the state bird.

More than 30million people live in California. This is more than in any other state. Many people with technology. California has many farms too. The state is also well known as a center for movies and television shows.

Throughout the rest of the 1500s, the Spaniards discovered the coastal areas of California, spread Christianity to Native Americans, and expanded the Spanish Empire. In 1821, Mexico and the city of Alta, California gained independence from Spain during the Mexican War of Independence.

California was settled during the last ten to fifteen thousand years ago. It was one of the most diverse areas in North America. After the contact with Spanish explorers, most of the Native Americans died out from European diseases. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, he was the first European to explore the California coast, he found nothing, no wealth, no advanced civilization, no agriculture.

California is in the western United States. The Pacific Ocean is to the west. California shares its southern border with Mexico. California is the third-largest state. California has several cities that are among the biggest in the United States. Sacramento is the capital of California. Los Angeles is the largest city in the state.&nbsp;San Francisco, San Jose, and San Diego, are other large cities in California.
