Claire is a student at the ''International College''. She is twelve years old and lives in London. Claire is a normal girl like you and me. In this book you will find out how her intellingence will help her solve some problems.

Lukas is a student at the same college as Claire. He is also twelve years old and he lives in London, too.

Mr. Daan is a crazy inventor that wants to change the course of history.

Mr. Rossi is their very old History teacher who will ask them to write their last project.

Most people thought that Claire was just a normal twelve-year-old girl who liked History a lot.

It was the last week of school before the summer holiday and for Mr. Rossi, the History teacher, his last week of teaching. On that occasion, he asked his students to write an essay about anything they found interesting.

Thus, every kid had to pair up with their deskmate. Claire's was Lukas; they hated each other, but for the sake of their History teacher, they teamed up.

First, they went to the History Museum to find out information about World War I. The guide told them not to enter one of the rooms until he was back. There was one room that caught Lukas' attention because it needed a passcode to be opened.
When the guide left, a little piece of paper flew out of his pocket. Lukas picked it up and saw that there was a code on it. He thought that maybe it was the passcode to enter the strange room. He was right. The door opened and the boy stepped into the room. Claire followed him.

When they entered the room, the kids saw a really big and strange machine. The 12-year-old kids stared at it. Obviously, you don't see a big strange machine every day, right? So like any kid, Claire went to take a closer look at it. As she got closer she accidentally pressed a button. The machine started. Claire dragged Lukas with her into the machine. At that very moment, they fell asleep.

They suddenly woke up.
In front of them, there lay a barren land. In the frozen wind, ash was floating lightly in the icy air.
"Where are we? What is going on?" asked Lukas.
"No clue!" answered Claire. But the boy didn't hear her.
In the distance, a huge tank was coming towards them.
"RUN!!!" shouted Claire.
"Over there! A bunker!" said her deskmate.
"The door won't open! Oh, wait, here's the key..."
They ran inside.

They entered the small bunker. Inside, there were many things and a bed.
"How strange!" said Claire
"You are right! Still, there are some things that we have in our rooms at home!" said Lukas.
"Look, there is a basement!"
"Let's take a look!"

"Hey, Claire! Watch this!"
"Lukas, we're literally blocked in a bunker and you want to play video games?" said the girl, annoyed.
"No! There's a door here! And it can only be opened by scanning this QR code!"
"Lukas, there's a WAR outside! How can there be QR codes here?!"
"You tell me." answered the boy.
Suddenly, Lukas' phone made a "BEEP!!!" and the wall... opened.
"What in the world..." a voice from the other side of the wall whispered.
A tall man wearing modern clothes stared at the kids. Behind him, the time machine shown.
"How did you two little naughty children enter?! Oh, wait..."
Claire realised he was looking at Lukas' phone.
"Umm... Excuse us, sir, we... We're sort of... lost..." said Claire, quietly.
"I see. But if you want my help, answer this question: How did you two get here?!"

"So?" asked the man.
"Well... You won't believe us if we tell you..." murmured Lukas.
"Oh, won't I? Well, if I told you I had created the time machine that took you here, would you believe me?!"
The children stared at each other, not saying anything. The only one who broke the silence was the tall guy.
"By the way, call me Mr. Daan. Welcome to 1918."
The silence became even quieter.
"You... You created THAT time machine?!" Claire's voice resounded.
"If I said no, you would call me a liar. Still, you didn't answer my question.
