7th Grade STEM - OPEN HOUSE 2021 

PE at home!?! In Physical Education, we want our students to learn why they need to be physically active, especially now! We want our students to learn how they can be physically active, even with limited choices and equipment. With this knowledge, our hope is that our students will be empowered to be physically active and in addition learn new skills to be able to participate in new activities!

Pictured to the right is one of the assignments that we do weekly for PE: our fitness chart. In this chart, we document what physical activities we have participated in the past week. It is a great way to get us motivated to stay active and makes sure that we are still moving.

To the left, you'll find a picture of me shooting a basketball which shows what we did to demonstrate how we should properly throw a basketball into a hoop. I enjoyed this assignment because before I completed it, I didn't know exactly how to shoot one properly myself.

While this is just a small portion of this assignment, it shows the basic idea of what I did for my Princess and the Frog character description essay. In this writing document, I compared and contrasted the main characters of the movie, The Princess and the Frog, Naveen and Tiana. We wrote this after watching and analyzing this movie in class.

In our elective class, we have covered the elements of TV and movies and finding the theme of different plots.

Pictured in the image to the right is an example of my Little Witch Academia character slides that were used to describe the characters that we observed in the show, Little Witch Academia. We were able to talk about the lessons that the characters learned, which really showed how they changed.

In the image to the left, you'll find one of my slides from the questions and answers Little Witch Academia slides.  This assignment tested my ability to be able to analyze the show and the core elements behind it, that may not be visible on the surface.

Fall Semester: Historian's Toolkit Rome Medieval Europe Islamic Civilization India

On this assignment, I drew the geography, religion, achievements, politics, economy, and social structure of ancient India. The image you see here is a Lunar New Year dragon. Shown here is my Korean storyboard where I designed a trailer for a movie about the Japanese invasions of Korea. We created positive affirmations using tessellations and the artist Lakwena Macivar as our inspiration.

I am proud of being able to graph many kinds of equations because of what we worked on in my math class with Mr. Bascara. Before, I could graph, but only simple equations, unlike now where I can graph most equations. On top of this, I can now say which equation represents a graph that I'm looking at. These abilities can actually be helpful in real life if I decide to get a job somehow relating to engineering or architecture.

One way I have improved as a student is by learning to take better Cornell notes. For those who are unfamiliar, the Cornell note-taking system is a strategy used to take notes more efficiently by keeping the questions on one part of the page and keeping your answers on the other. I have improved my notes using this strategy by making them more organized and by not going into too much detail.

Below, you'll find my Origami Shirt project, demonstrating the products of binomials. On it, you'll find how to use the foil method and what to do in different forms of binomials based on the way that they are formed.

Math can relate to real-life because it can help me when I'm cooking/baking and I need to convert measurements, it can help me when I'm building something (legos, wood, etc.) and I need to create a slope, and it can help me when I'm dealing with money (like when I'm saving up to buy something).

The hobbies that kept me going: I have enjoyed drawing, watching YouTube, learning, and playing the piano. New hobbies I learned during the pandemic: A new hobby that I've learned during the pandemic is learning about reptiles. I've always liked reptiles and learning, but recently, I have started researching snakes, lizards, turtles, and crocodilians as a hobby. Places I went during the pandemic: I went to my grandma's house and back when the cases were lower, I went to Yosemite and Big Bear. The best movie I watched: The best movie that I watched was The Simpsons Movie because it was extremely humorous and yet the story was still touching. What I learned about myself: I learned that I work better if I have a specific goal that I am trying to complete (my goal has been to keep all of my grades above 97%, which I have been successful with).

One of the cornerstone events that helps us in maintaining the home to school connection and showcasing our student's many accomplishments, is Open House.&nbsp; While we would prefer to host Open House in typical, in-person format, current circumstances don't permit us. Even though our school buildings have been closed, your children have continued to learn and shine. On the following pages, you will find wonderful examples of the work they have produced this year during virtual learning.  We hope that you enjoy seeing and hearing about the assignments highlighted.
