I looked around, picking up my feet. I made sure to cross safely, the crosswalk with its faded whites and blacks, a thrown-out forgotten water bottle left on the side, its label hanging off blowing in the cool winter’s wind. Even with the cool wind, the hot sun's rays shone in my eyes, sweat dripped down my forehead. Cars drove by crushing any pebbles in their way, I was on the left side of the street walking swiftly, and on the other, a small barbecue grill was set up; smoke rising from the small flames, and standing next to it were two small girls. These two girls must have been around the age of eight or nine, they stood there and looked at me walking by; and one said something, calling to me from across the street. “Loser!” They laughed together as they had just pulled off the funniest joke ever. How immature, but what more can you expect from two young ones? I simply ignored them and continued walking; but I couldn't ignore them, I couldn't ignore that one word. So I returned home hurt, still wondering how that one single word could hurt so much. I wanted to leave this place, I wish I were somewhere else, I wish I wasn't me.
