Google's Be Internet Awesome Dig Cit Curriculum

Be Internet Awesome activities focus on the core ideas of being internet smart, alert, strong, kind and brave. *This curriculum is not broken down by grade level.

To support Digital Citizenship in Jeffco, Ed Tech has developed monthly themes! Although the resources on our <a href="https://teamjeffco.jeffcopublicschools.org/academic_support/curriculum_instruction/ed_tech/digital_citizenship">Digital Citizenship website</a> pertain to TechforEd grade levels (5th, 6th, 9th, and 10th) these themes can and should be taught in all grade levels.

Kids can play their way to being Internet Awesome with <a href="https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com/en_us/interland">Interland</a>, an online adventure that puts the key lessons of digital safety into hands-on practice with four challenging games.

Digital citizenship covers a variety of skills that help students thrive in a digitally-connected world. These skills include: media balance and well-being; privacy and security; digital footprint and identify; relationships &amp; communication; cyberbullying, digital drama &amp; hate speech; and news and media literacy. Being a digital citizen is all about taking ownership of our actions and using technology responsibly and respectfully. As educators, we must teach kids how to learn, create, and participate responsibly in the digital world.

Do you need some <a href="https://www.commonsense.org/education/articles/quick-digital-citizenship-activities-for-k-5-distance-learning">quick activities</a> for remote and in-person learners to support digital citizenship? Students can complete these short activities independently or with a family member. These activities are group by grade level and include 15-minute watch-and-reflect videos and activities (grades K-5) and the Digital Passport game (grades 3-5).

Securly Classroom: From Digital Management to Digital Citizenship

<a href="http://www.teachinctrl.org/">InCtrl</a>&nbsp;to provides free lessons for both teachers and students (grades 4-8) on digital citizenship. InCtrl is unique from other online curriculums in two main ways: it provides guides for teaching digital citizenship&nbsp;across different subject areas,&nbsp;giving specifics for how to integrate digital citizenship into English/Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math, and Library/Media. the curriculum is based heavily on collaboration and communication

This book is a follow-up to our Getting Started with Securly Classroom book. If you have not yet used Securly Classroom, a tool to monitor students' digital behaviors, we recommend you start there and try out the tool for a few weeks. After you have had time to try out the tool and make noticings about how your students are spending their time using technology during learning time, this book can help you move from managing student behaviors to teaching students how to be better digital citizens.

Be Internet Awesome &amp; Pear Deck Lessons

Pear Deck educators worked with Google to create custom, <a href="https://www.peardeck.com/be-internet-awesome">interactive presentations</a> to accompany the Be Internet Awesome lessons. Designed for use in the classroom, each presentation provides teachers with a simple way to introduce a concept related to digital literacy and guide students through related activities.&nbsp;You can download the lesson and curriculum straight to your Google Drive or a Shared Google Drive or Folder.

Common Sense Media Games

Introduce students in grades 3–5 to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.commonsense.org/education/digital-passport">Digital Passport™</a>&nbsp;by&nbsp;Common Sense Education. The award-winning suite of six interactive games addresses key issues kids face in today's digital world. Each engaging game teaches critical digital citizenship skills that help students learn to use technology responsibly to learn, create, and participate. Games are available in Spanish.
