He thought he found India but it was an undiscoverd new continent: America. 1492 he reached an Island from the Bahamas and called the natives "Indians"

Here you can see a short video about the famous imigration center Ellis Island. It closed 1954. But until then over 28 Million people arrived there.

At the 4th of  July the Americans declared the independence from Britian after they have won the revolutionary war.

The Americans celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks and partys with typical American food, like hotdogs or they dress up with the colours of the American flag.
