The pilgrims were a group of people searching for a place to learn and celebrate freely.
They found a part of the world where they could do that, and met people who already lived there.
People who already live somewhere are called native people.
The pilgrims were new to this part of the world and experienced kinds of weather, plants, and animals they had never seen before.
The native people shared what they knew with the pilgrims about these things, but the pilgrims were not grateful.
They did not show kindness back to the native people.
How do you think the native people felt? Can you make a face that shows me that feeling?
When we celebrate Thanksgiving, we remember this feeling and work hard to treat the Earth, the animals and the people who live here with kindness and respect.
We celebrate by showing our gratitude when we feel glad someone is helpful or caring.
