Do you know how to swim? If you don't you will learn! If you do you will learn some more! There are 4 strokes. You will know all of them if you read this book! First you learn the most easy stroke.
Chapter 1
Freestyle!
In freestyle you learn the kicks first. To do the kicks you bring your whole leg up and down and up and down and up and down as fast as you can. You can practice this by holding onto the side of the pool and kicking.
Next you learn the arms. To do the arms you put your arms in front of you and bring one arm to your side and keep bringing it back all the way until it's in front of you. Then you do the same thing with the other one. Now you put the arms and kicks together by doing the arms and kicks at the same time! Now you will probably notice that you can't get that far because you can't breathe! To breathe you put your head on your arm when you are swimming and take a big,big breath. But don't stop kicking or your legs will sink! I am on a swim team I had to do this so much when I had a swim meet and I had to do 100 yards of freestyle! 100 yards is 4 laps in a regular size pool! I got really tired. Also the race was 12 and under! I felt okay since my friend was doing the same race, and I actually got second place! You will get super good at freestyle and if you join a swim team you will win first place in every race!
chapter 2
Backstroke!!
Backstroke is just freestyle on your back so if you read the first chapter It won't be too hard. It also won't be too hard if you know how to float on your back.To do backstroke you hold on to the wall and push off! start doing Freestyle kicks and then start doing freestyle arms backwards. In backstroke you can't turn over or you will be disqualified if you are doing 1 lap. (go to page 7 to find out when to turn over.) Now you need your magic number! Your magic number is how many strokes away from the wall you are when you see the flags. To find your magic number you start below the flags , go on your back and start swimming backstroke and remember to count your strokes until you hit the wall! If you hit the wall with your head, next time you swim backstroke do 1 less stroke than you counted. And if you hit the wall with your hand , you do the number of strokes you counted. Now you won't hit the wall! HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you know
backstroke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!you know half of the strokes 2 more until you know all of them!
😀
Chapter 3
Breaststroke
Difficulty level 5

First, hold on to the wall and bring the bottom of your legs up. Spread them out wide and push them together as fast as you can! Keep practicing until your really good at it. Next, you do the arms up in streamline. Then put them out like a plane. Then bend your arms, touch them to your side like a porcupine do streamline again. Now you put it together. Wait! You can't just put it together! It is different! Keep reading! Okay, you don't do them at the same time. You have to do the kicks only when you are doing streamline. Keep practicing. Breaststroke will be your favorite stroke once you get good at it. You can always get better at breaststroke.
Challenge Zone is not over yet! One more stroke until you know all of them! NOW THE LAST STROKE
Chapter 4
Butterfly (The stroke)
Difficulty 4
As always we do the kicks first. You do them holding onto the wall, first you push your legs together and you will stay like this for the whole kick. Next, move your legs up and down. For the arms, you start with your arms in front of you and pull them back like you have wings like this...

To put the arms and kicks together. You have to do two kicks then arms. Two kicks, then arms. Do that over and over again. you won't be good at it when you first start so you need to practice a lot to be good at it. Since you know all the strokes, you can win races! And that brings us to the next chapter, racing and swim teams.
Chapter 5
Racing and Swim Teams
In freestyle, you need to dive. To dive you stand on the side of the pool, curl your toes around the side, put your hands up in streamline. Put your chin down and push off forward and your hands have to go in the water first. You won't do it perfectly the first time you try it. This is how you do it
Once you dive, you stay streamline until you slow down and then you start swimming and if you are doing more than one lap, you do a flip turn. To do that when you're almost at that wall, flip, roll over, and push off of the wall in streamline. That's a flip turn! Make sure if you can't do a flip turn right don't do it in a swim meet or you will be disqualified! Open turn instead.
To do an open turn, touch the wall with one hand, put the other hand out facing the pool and push off in streamline.

Next, The Touches. This doesn't sound important but if you do them wrong, you will get disqualified! For freestyle you touch the wall with one hand and in backstroke, you touch the wall with one hand too. In butterfly and breaststroke you touch the wall with two hands. Everything I just told you is the same for breaststroke and butterfly. But it's different for backstroke. In backstroke, you count to one less than your magic number. Then turn on your belly, do one freestyle pull and do a flip turn. Also, make sure when you touch the wall at the end of a race you stay on your back.
