Icarus
First, I will tell you the story of Icarus. Icarus went to jail and his dad wanted him free. So his dad made him a pair of wings. The wings were made of wax and feathers, and his dad told him not to fly to close to the sun, or else the wax would melt. However, Icarus flew to close to the sun and the wax melted and he fell to his death.
Amilea earhart
Amelia Earhart was born in July 24 1897 and she disappeared in July 2 1137. In 1923 Amelia became the 16 women to receive a pilots licence. When her team landed in wales 21 hours later, she became the first women to fly across the Atlantic ocean, and that was just one of her many records.
Planes
Planes are something that get used every day. Sometimes you might see one flying in the sky. Its very unlikely for 2 planes to crash. Aer Lingus is Ireland's national airline. It is the second largest Irish airline after its main competitor, RyanairAer Lingus means Air Fleet in the Celtic languages. The airline began flying in April 1936. At that time, it had only one aircraft. It flew between Dublin and Bristol. It was called an Iolar. As of 2015, the airline has almost 50 airplanes. It flies to about 70 airports in Europe and North America.
Between 7782 and 8755 planes are in the air at any given time.
fun fact:
Hot air balloons
The hot air balloon is the oldest form of flying technology that can successfully carry people. The earliest use of hot air to make objects fly was made in Ancient China. Paper lanterns were sent into the air for signalling. The first creatures in a hot air balloon were a sheep, rooster and duck in the 18th century. They survived the flight! Today, hot air balloons give people an opportunity to see the world from a different angle. In 2010, a man called Christian Brown presented the first glass bottomed hot air balloon at a big event. Passengers were left terrified. Would you be scared?
