Flight History by Mark Idlis
flight is when you travel by air, and objects and birds can fly like balloons and eagles.
Well humans made certain objects over the years that can fly like planes and hot air balloons
This book is dedicated on these objects and the people who made them, so let's start
In 1903 they made the world's first plane and Orville flew it first. it was engine powered and flew very slow at around 20-10 mph which means miles per hour.
Wilbur Wright was born in 1871 and Orville Wright was born in 1867. They were the einsteins of their time. they made the first plane in the world.
They lived in Ohio USA and were young when they started liking mechanics and started a bike shop in their twenties
next we'll be looking at hot air balloons. the balloon is made of a parachute valve, an envelope a burner a tank and a basket.
the hot air balloon is a french invention almost 300 years ago from the montgolfier brothers
they studied how birds fly. They found out that birds steer themselves through the sky and figured they needed to control the plane's wings.

Wilbur died in 1912 and Orville died in 1948. The airplane/aeroplane was an important invention and has changed how humans travel for years now. You can probably hear the roar of an airplane right now.

the hot air balloon is a french invention almost 300 years ago from the montgolfier brothers
The hot air balloon is made of a parachute an envelope a basket and a burner.
in 1783 the french brothers named Joseph Michel and Jacques Etienne Montgolfier designed the first hot air balloon using silk and paper.
they understood that hot air makes things rise and so they lit a small fire under the balloon to make it ascend. As the balloon rose higher it hit cooler thinner air and it started falling. They figured it could only fly at a low altitude.
the first balloon they launched had no passengers. Next they used sheep and other animals as passengers to test if they would survive the altitude. next they challenged the balloon with human passengers. On 21st November 1783, the brothers launched the balloon in its first ascent without being tied to the ground.
its 2 passengers were a chemistry teacher and a millitary officer. it flew from central Paris for a distance of 9 km in 25 minutes.
In the early years of flying most aviators were males. Amelia Earhart was the first female aviator. Born in the USA in 1897 she learned to fly an aeroplane when she was in her twenties.
In 1927 Charles Lindbergh became the first man to fly solo across the atlantic ocean. in 1932 Amelia became the first woman to achieve this. She departed from Harbour Grace Newfoundland in the USA and landed in a field in Culmore Co. Derry. She made it on a record time of 14 hours and 56 minutes.
She went on many more adventurous flights. She attempted to fly the entire world in 1937 with a navigator Fred Noonan. During her flight, her aeroplane went missing over the Pacific Ocean Amelia, Fred and the plane were never found.
In 1957 the Boeing 707 jetliner took flight. it was a commercial passenger aeroplane. Boeing made versions of this aircraft up until the late 1970s, containing 100 and 200 passenger seats.
Many countries used fighter jets in ww2 such as the Japanese Bomber and US P51. These are fast and agile planes that could be used to shoot down battalions and other planes and tanks too. These were essential to the British and German Nazi forces. They were first introduced in the early 1800s.
The ME 262 Shwalbe was used by Nazi forces in 1944. They flew at a speed of 571 mph and had just 1 pilot / crew members
in 1969 the Boeing 747 Launched. With 400 seats, it was the world's first jumbo-jet. Irish Airline Aer Lingus uses the smaller Boeing 757 with 177 seats, for flights between Ireland and North America.
Aeroplanes have large engines that have to burn huge amounts of oil in order to fly. This is very bad for the environment. In 2019 the first fully electric commercial aeroplane went into flight. This was a small seaplane in Canada. Many thought airlines are looking into using electricity to power aeroplanes. Even though air is the fastest mode of transport between countries, like from USA to Brazil, there are much more ways to travel like ferries, or trains.
