Average Ann’s First Day of Second Grade

Today was Average Ann’s first day at Average Elementary School. She had to move. In her average dress, Average Ann got in her average shoes and went down her average stairs to eat her average breakfast. She brushed her average hair. She went into the average car on an average Monday. She was going to her so-called average school on her average first day of second grade, Average Elementary School.

Average Ann went to her Average school. She saw Giant Gervase. She had heard about how scary he was and how mean he was from the neighborhood pool. Scared, she tried hiding. Gervase caught her before she could hide though.

BAM! BAM! BAM! stomped Gervase.
Loudly, Giant Gervase says, “HEY! WHAT'S YOUR NAME?” He pointed at Ann. “Ann” she responded. She was as scared as a caribou being attacked by a wolf. She thought she was going to be beaten up. He opened his arms wide. He slowly closed them on her until they wrapped around her. He seemed nice. After hanging out more they became friends. She had misjudged him.
“ Meet me at the playground after school.” Ann spoke so loud she frightened herself
“OK! SEE YOU THEN!” Gervase’s first friend was Ann and he was very much pleased with himself. Gervase gallantly walked down the hall.

She went to Ms. Smith’s room. It was very loud. Hoping not to be noticed, everyone stopped talking and stared at her plainly. Everyone was watching her except Suzie, she was smiling at her. She had heard about Suzie and how she was all mean. What they said about Gervase was wrong. She was known as Sassy Second Grade Suzie. She was so small Ann could barely see her. Ann sat next to her and everyone started talking again.
“Hi,” Ann spoke softly.
“ WhY dO yOu ThInK yOu CaN TaLk tO mE?” Suzie barked.
“I’m sorry.” Ann replied.
“ YoU ShOuLd bE” she said harshly. Ann kept silent.

She met nice kids.
