Nora woke up on Monday morning to the sound of her mommy calling her.
"Nora, honey, it's the first day of school! I have your breakfast ready for you," her mother was saying.
I should put on my prettiest dress today, Nora thought. I have to impress my teacher on the first day of school.
Nora picked out her favorite pink dress and put it on, along with her pink bow and pink shoes.

It's the first
day of school!
When Nora got downstairs, some yummy toast and berries were waiting for her on the kitchen table. Quickly, she ate the food, and then grabbed her backpack off the back of her chair.
“Mommy, can we go to school now? Pleeease?” she begged.
“Okay, Nora. Let’s get in the car!” her mommy smiled down at her, as pretty as a peach.
Nora and her mommy sat in the car, and Nora got to sit in the front seat, since it was a special day.

Ten minutes later, when they got to school, Nora was a little bit nervous.
“Mommy, what’s my teacher’s name? Are my friends in my class? When will I see you again?” Nora wondered.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Slow down, my little Nora! Lucy is in your class, so you’ll have a friend there. Your teacher’s name is Mrs. Berry, and you’ll see me at the end of the day, after snacktime,” replied her mommy.
“Okay! I love you, mommy!”

I love you,
mommy!
Walking into the classroom, Nora saw her best friend, Lucy, sitting on the carpet. Lucy was playing with some blocks.
“Hi, Lucy!” Delighted to see her friend, Nora smiled. “Are you excited for our first day of school?”
“Yes, yes, yes!” Lucy jumped up to greet her friend, like a spring popping loose from a clock. “Hi, Nora!”
Nora walked over to Mrs. Berry’s desk to meet her.
Hi, Mrs.
Berry!

“Hi, Mrs. Berry. I’m Nora!” Nora put on her prettiest smile for Mrs. Berry.
“Oh, it’s you, Nora! Your mother told me all about you!” Mrs. Berry looked up at Nora and grinned. “The first thing we’re going to do today is read a class story! Do you like Goodnight Moon?"
“Of course I do!” Nora’s day was off to a great start so far. I can’t wait to read, she thought. Mrs. Berry is the best!
