Once upon a time, there was a big cat called Cheetah and he lived in the Sahara Desert. It was the middle of fall and Cheetah was preying on a small gazelle when out of nowhere, a meerkat popped up behind him! Cheetah saw the meerkat’s huge shadow, and was scared out of his mind!
“Ahhhhhhh!!!” Cheetah screamed. He ran and ran and ran as fast as he could, and didn’t look where he was going. Cheetah ran right into a dead rose bush and got a thorn stuck in his paw!

“Ouch! That hurt!” Cheetah yowled. He limped to “mother” bear’s cabin/cave.
“What did you get yourself into this time?!?” Mother bear exclaimed.
“I-I-I-I h-h-hurt m-m-my p-paw on a-a thorn!” Cheetah stammered.
“Your foot… I mean paw...is hurt?” Mother bear asked as she got some ginormous leaves ready. “
Y-y-yes!” Cheetah cried.
“First, let’s disinfect the wound,” said Mother bear.
“Yowch!” Cheetah yelled.
“Did that hurt?” asked Mother bear.
“No, but I thought it would,” Cheetah replied.
“I see,” commented Mother bear. “Now we pull the thorn out of the wound,” announced Mother bear as she got her tweezers.“Now hold still!” YANK!!!
“Sigh. That felt good,” Cheetah said, happily.
“I’m glad to hear that Cheetah! But we’re not done yet. Now we wrap up the wound with humongous leaves. My favorite part!” Mother bear exclaimed. WRAP WRAP WRAP
“Thank you, Mother bear!” Cheetah replied.
“You are always welcome!” Mother bear commented.
Later on, Cheetah was hunting a different gazelle when a big elephant stomped near Cheetah. Cheetah cried for help, “Eeeeeeeeeeek!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” And he ran once again! He also didn’t look where he was going. Again. This time, Cheetah fell into a trap made up of rope. “If only I had a knife, and could use it,” thought Cheetah. Then Little Mouse came in and bit the ropes apart. Cheetah was free at last! “Thank you Little Mouse!” Cheetah exclaimed.
“Anytime,” Little Mouse replied. But when Cheetah had cried for help the second time, the tears dried up but there were black marks in their place. That is how cheetahs got stripes around their nose.
