She was an American Mathematician. She was born on August 26, 1918, and died on February 24, 2020. She was the first female black engineer to work for NASA and calculated many flight paths. 

Mae Jemison was born on October 17, 1956. She is a former astronaut, physician, and engineer. She is the first African American Woman to become an astronaut. She spent a week in the space shuttle called Endeavor.

Equality is what many people of color fought for. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited enforcing segregation of any kind.

Zora Neal Hurston was born on January 7, 1891, and died on January 28, 1960. She was an American Author and researched hoodoo(African American Beliefs). Her most famous book is called ¨Their Eyes Were Watching God¨ created in 1937.

She was born on July 16, 1867, and died on March 25, 1931. She was an American Journalist who fought a crusade against lynching and battled sexism.

Bobby Seale was born on October 22, 1936. He was an American Political Activist who helped found the Black Panther Party with Huey P. Newton.

An event where The Interstate Commerce Commission outlawed discriminatory seating on interstate buses and interstate bus terminals. This was the result of 6 months of protests and press conferences by The Freedom Riders.

She is a writer, activist, and co-founder of The Black Lives Matter Movement. She is currently working as a special projects director at National Domestic Workers Alliance. 

A Movement against Segregation and Discrimination during mid-1950. Many of the most influential and Famous Activists were prominent in this Movement.

Is a National Holiday that takes place on June 19. It celebrates the end of slavery in the USA. This holiday goes by many names, such as Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, etc.

Freedom could be found in the North for slaves. On the other hand, slavery in the South of the US was still legal. The law to Abolish slavery was placed by congress in 1865.

Ruby Bridges was born on September 8, 1954. She is a civil rights activist and became a symbol for the civil rights movement at age 6 when she moved to a formerly white-only school.

Lloyd was born on May 31, 1918, and died on an unknown date in 1982. He was an American Chemist and scientist who worked on the Manhattan Project. The project's purpose was to create atomic bombs, starting in 1942.

He was the only Member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition who was African-American. He participated in the entire trip and had a major impact on their success.

The Underground Railroad was a system in the northern part of the U.S. where slave escapees from the south would hide out and run until they reach the Northern States.

The Voting RIghts Act was legalized in 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. This law made it illegal to discriminate racially in voting rights.

He was born on January 2, 1884, and died on March 25, 1951. He was an African American director who made independent films during the silent era of film.

Mary Church Terrell was born on September 23, 1863, and died on July 24, 1954. She was an American Social activist and was the first president, as well as co-founder, of the National Association of Colored Women.

Is a famous court case in 1954 that decided that segregation in schools didn't align with what was written in the constitution.

He was an African American inventor. He was born on September 4, 1848, and died on December 11, 1928. He created an evaporative air conditioner, an improved toilet system for train cars, and new filaments for light bulbs.

Was an Agricultural scientist. He is most known for learning the many different uses of peanuts, such as peanut glue, shampoo, and sauce.

The Washington March was held at the Washington Monument on August 28, 1963. This march was held to advocate economic African American Rights.

NAACP stands for National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. NAACP was founded in 1909 by W.E.B Du Bois. Mary White Ovington, etc. They work to eliminate Racial separation in politics, healthcare, and education.

The Harlem Renaissance was a period in Harlem where African American Culture was at its most influential point. Some people who lived during this time were Zora Neale Hurston, Aaron Douglas, and James Weldon Johnson.

Philip was born on April 15, 1889, and died on May 16, 1976. He was a civil rights leader and was labeled as one of the Big 6 leaders of the civil rights movement.
